Does Paralives use AI?
Paralives does not use generative AI, as far as public sources show. The Steam page has no AI disclosure. The studio pages mention no AI tools.
Paralives does use game AI. The Parafolks have an autonomy system. It picks what a character does when you do not give an order. This is the normal kind of AI in life sims, and it is not generative AI.
We opened each source on October 21, 2026. We did not find a statement from the studio that says “we use no AI”. We also did not find a statement that says the studio uses it. This post shows what we found and what we did not find.
You read this on the LifeSim blog. LifeSim is an AI game, so we have a bias. We say where Paralives is the better choice.
Does Paralives use generative AI for art, writing, or voices?
We found no sign of it. The studio describes the work of its team, month by month, on its Development page. The work in that list is done by people.
Art and objects
The Development page lists items such as “Created new clothing and accessories for the Paramaker” and “Created new furniture and objects for the build mode”. It also lists new animations and new buildings for the town. The page names no tool for this work.
Wikipedia lists five artists in the credits of the game. Alex Massé is the designer and one of six programmers. The game runs on the Unity engine.
Voices
The Parafolks speak Parli, a made-up language. The Development page says the team “Worked on recording Parli voice over audio”. A later month says the team finished “integrating all actor voices in the game”. So actors recorded the voices.
Andrei Castañon is the composer, according to Wikipedia. The Development page also lists work on the soundtrack and on radio music.
Writing and translation
The Development page says the team started to translate the game into the confirmed languages. It does not say who did the translation or how. We do not know if a tool helped. We leave that question open.
What have the Paralives developers said about AI?
We found no public statement about generative AI from Paralives Studio or Alex Massé. We checked these sources:
- The FAQ on paralives.com. It has twelve questions, and none is about AI.
- The Development page and the News page on paralives.com. Neither page uses the word “AI”.
- The full text of the Steam store page. This includes the answers from the developers in the Early Access section. They do not mention AI.
- The 125 news posts of the game on Steam. We searched each one for “AI”, “generative”, and “artificial”. We found no match.
We could not open Patreon, Reddit, or X from our tools. A statement can exist on those sites. If you find one, the words of the studio come before this post.
The studio does talk a lot about one kind of AI: autonomy. That is the next section.
Does the Paralives Steam page have an AI disclosure?
No. The Paralives store page has no “AI Generated Content Disclosure” section. We checked the page and the Steam store data on October 21, 2026.
What the disclosure is
Steam asks developers to say when they use generative AI. VGC reports two types. The first is AI that made content for the game, the store page, or the marketing. The second is AI that makes content while you play.
Steam shows the answer on the store page, in the section with that name. VGC also reports that “AI-powered tools” such as code helpers “do not require a disclosure”.
What “no disclosure” means
The developer fills in the disclosure. So the missing section tells you one fact. The studio did not report generative AI content to Steam.
The rules of Steam also cover AI content made while you play. So the studio reports none of that type either.
How does the Parafolk “AI” work?
Paralives calls it “Character autonomy”. The Development page lists it as a feature that is available now. The system decides what a Parafolk does on its own.
Game AI is not generative AI
Game AI is a set of rules that the developers write. The rules look at needs, traits, and the place. Then they pick an action from a fixed list. Every action, animation, and line of sound already exists in the game.
Generative AI makes new content. It writes new text, draws new pictures, or makes new sound. The Sims, Paralives, and most life sims use game AI only.
What the studio says autonomy does
The Development page and the patch notes give examples. In the words of the studio:
- “Created a system for Parafolks to autonomously find objects and furniture to use in their house”.
- “Developed an autonomy system making characters walk around town and visit various lots during their day”.
- Characters “will automatically wash their hands after using the toilet (if not Sloppy), eat after cooking (if hungry), etc”.
- “The character autonomy system now has more rules and characters feel more alive”.
- “Parafolks now have a chance to autonomously extinguish items on fire instead of always panicking or fleeing.”
The words “if not Sloppy” and “if hungry” show the design. A trait or a need changes which rule applies. The studio also says it “Created animation variations based on the personality and current emotions”.
Townies and NPCs
Townies are the other people of the town. The studio says it “Improved Townie autonomy to make them visit shops and public lots more often”. The goal was that these places “don’t feel empty”.
The Steam page lists “Story progression for NPCs” as a feature to come during Early Access. It is not in the game yet. For the other planned items, read the Paralives roadmap guide.
How does Paralives compare to inZOI on AI?
The two games go in opposite directions. inZOI, from inZOI Studio and KRAFTON, uses generative AI and says so on Steam. Paralives has no disclosure.
What the inZOI disclosure says
The inZOI store page has an AI Generated Content Disclosure. It says:
- Players “can generate unique textures for character outfits and various items based on text input”.
- Players “can also create 3D objects from 2D image input”.
- Players can “add distinctive motions to their Zoi using video input”.
- “Character actions and thoughts can be influenced with text using SLM technology”.
- “AI-based tools are utilized as auxiliary support during the content creation process and text localizations.”
SLM means small language model. That last item is the base of Smart Zoi, an experimental setting. We cover it in our Smart Zoi guide.
Side by side
| Question | Paralives | inZOI |
|---|---|---|
| AI disclosure on Steam | None | Yes |
| AI content while you play | None reported | Textures, 3D objects, motions from your input |
| Language model for characters | None reported | Yes, a small model on your PC |
| AI tools in development | None reported | Yes, for content and translation |
| Character behavior | Autonomy rules | Rules, plus an optional language model |
| Voices | Actors, in Parli | Not part of this check |
Many other parts differ too. Read inZOI vs Paralives for the full comparison.
Who should pick Paralives?
Pick Paralives if you want a life sim made by a human team, with no generative AI. The studio reports no AI content. The studio also says it will never release paid DLC, only free updates.
Paralives is also strong in the parts that you make with your hands. Its build mode has no grid. Its Paramaker lets you change many face and body features. See how the build mode works.
Paralives is a single-player game, and it does not need the internet. That is in our multiplayer guide. If you are not sure about the price, read is Paralives worth it.
What if you want characters that use AI?
Then Paralives is not the game for that. Its Parafolks pick from fixed actions. They do not talk back in words that you can read. They speak Parli, the made-up language of the game.
LifeSim does use AI, and we say so plainly. Every person in the city is an AI character. Each one has a name, a job, a home, friends, goals, and a routine. When an event needs a decision, the game asks a language model what that person does.
You walk up to a person and type what you want to say. They answer in their own words. LifeSim runs in your browser, on a real map of Earth. It is free, in English only, and you play alone. See how LifeSim plays.
LifeSim has no build mode like Paralives. You cannot design a house wall by wall. If you want that, Paralives does it better.
