Paralives vs The Sims 4

Paralives is better at building. The Sims 4 has more to do. Neither statement is a verdict, because the two games are at different points in their life.

The Sims 4 came out on September 2, 2014, and it is finished. Paralives entered Early Access on May 25, 2026, and the studio says it needs about two more years. The Steam page for each game gave us these facts on October 4, 2026.

The Sims 4 base game is free. The EA page says Play for Free, and Steam lists the game as free to play. Paralives is a paid game on Steam.

The Sims 4 has paid content on top of the free game. Steam lists 114 DLC items for it, in the form of expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs, and kits. The EA page also shows Maker Packs, which are themed content bundles.

Paralives plans no paid DLC. TheGamer reports that the developers say they have no plans to release any paid DLC.

The rule that follows from this is simple. A free game with optional packs costs nothing to try. A paid game costs money before you know if you like it. If you are unsure, start with The Sims 4.

Paralives wins on building. The official site lists building with no grid, curved walls, resizable objects, split-level floors, and custom stairs. It also lists full control of color and texture.

TheGamer agrees. It says that the Paralives categories for build and buy are broken down more clearly than those in The Sims 4. This makes it easier to find an object.

The Sims 4 still has an advantage in volume. After more than ten years, it has many packs, and Steam lists 114 DLC items. A builder who needs a specific piece of furniture may find it in The Sims 4 first.

Choose Paralives if the shape of the house matters most to you. Choose The Sims 4 if the choice of objects matters most.

Paralives has a character creator named the Paramaker. Its Steam page calls it an advanced character creator. TheGamer says that it gives you much more control, with more sliders and more color choices. TheGamer also says that it has better range for skin tones, hair types, and body types.

The Sims 4 has its own long list of looks. It also has the Gallery. On the Gallery, you can download, like, and comment on the Sims, homes, and rooms that other players made. That is a lot of free creative work.

Both games let you share. The Paralives page lists Steam Workshop support. The Sims 4 uses the Gallery for sharing. TheGamer says that Sims 4 mods need manual file work, while Paralives uses the Workshop. Read how to install Sims 4 mods for the steps.

The Sims 4 has more to do today. TheGamer says that Paralives has fewer activities during Early Access, and that the number will grow over time.

The Steam page of Paralives lists what is still to come. The team plans weather, seasons, pets, vehicles, boats, swimming, event planning, and gardening. None of these has a date. Do not buy the game for a feature that is only on a list.

The town of Paralives is open. TheGamer says that Paralives shows the whole neighborhood, while The Sims 4 uses separate lots with loading screens. The official site lists parks, restaurants, beaches, and shops that you can visit.

The Sims 4 asks for less. Its minimum on Steam is Windows 10, an Intel Core i3-3220 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200, 4 GB of RAM, and 26 GB of space. The recommended setup is a Core i5 or Ryzen 5, 8 GB of RAM, and 51 GB of space.

Paralives asks for more. On Windows, the Steam page lists a 2.5 GHz Core i5 or Ryzen 5, 12 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 or RX 6600 XT. On a Mac, it lists an Apple M2 chip with 12 GB of RAM.

LifeSim is a different kind of game. You do not manage a family from above. You live one life on a real map and talk to the people around you. It fits you if you want a slow life with memory. Use this rule. Pick the game whose weak side you can accept.

Pick The Sims 4 if you want a finished game, a free start, and a lot of content now. You accept that building is older and that the full game costs money in packs.

Pick Paralives if the building tools are the reason that you play. You accept that the game is in Early Access, that some features are missing, and that your computer needs to be stronger.

Play both if you can. The Sims 4 is free, so you lose nothing by trying it first.

Is Paralives on console?

The Steam page lists Windows and macOS only. The Sims 4 is on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store, according to EA.

Will Paralives have paid DLC?

TheGamer says that the developers have no plans for it. The studio can change a plan, so check the Steam page.

Is Paralives made by EA?

No. The official site says that the game is funded through Patreon, with the support of the community.

Which game has more reviews on Steam?

The Sims 4 has far more. It has 107,285 reviews on the day we checked, and Paralives has 14,527.
