Does Paralives have DLC?
No. The studio has pledged that Paralives will never have paid DLC. All updates are free.
The Steam page says it directly: “We have pledged to never release paid DLCs: there will only ever be free updates!” We opened that page on October 5, 2026.
This post covers the pledge, how the studio pays for the work, what the free updates are, and what the pledge does not cover.
What exactly did the studio promise?
Lead developer Alex Massé made the promise in a Reddit Q&A. TheGamer quotes the words: “There will never be paid DLCs, only free updates. Even after the Early Access.” TheGamer published the article on May 28, 2026. The game launched on May 25, 2026.
Gamebrief reports the same rule in different words: no paid DLC, ever, and every update through version 1.0 is in the base price. Gamebrief is a secondary source. The Steam page is the primary source.
A pledge is not a contract. The studio can change its mind. We found no sign that it will. We also found no legal document. Read the Steam page again before you buy.
How does the studio pay for free updates?
From the sales of the base game. Massé said that the team is small, only 15 people. In TheGamer’s quote, the sales so far “will sustain us for many years”, even if the team grows.
The studio also gave a reason that is not about money. Massé said that the team are life sim fans. They wanted a game they would play themselves, without the need to buy a lot of extra content.
The Paralives site says that the game was funded by the community on Patreon. The site does not say how the studio will fund the years after version 1.0. We cannot confirm that part.
What free updates are planned?
gHacks lists these planned free updates: family trees, pets, pools, gardening, cars, weather effects, and social events. None of them was in the game at launch.
The Steam page says that the studio expects about two years in Early Access before version 1.0. We found no date for any single item. Do not buy the game for a feature that is only on the list.
For what the game has today, gHacks lists these Early Access features: character creation with layered clothing and makeup, home building and decoration, work and hobbies, social actions, friendships, romance, and family units.
Will the price of Paralives go up?
Yes. The studio says that the price increases gradually as it adds content. The Steam page quotes this rule. gHacks says the price will rise when the game leaves Early Access.
On October 5, 2026, the Steam page showed $31.99, down from $39.99, with a 20 percent discount that ends on October 8. Prices and sales change. Open the page to see the number today.
The pledge covers DLC. It does not cover the base price. The studio says that the base price will rise. Both facts are true at the same time. An early buyer pays less and gets every free update. For the full cost, read the Paralives release date and price post.
Why do players care about DLC in a life sim?
Life sims grow by content. A player wants a new job, a new pet, or a new town. In many life sims, each of these is a paid pack. Massé named this as the reason for the pledge: the team wanted a game that a player enjoys without the need to buy a lot of extra content.
The price of a full collection is the cost that players remember. The Steam page for The Sims 4 shows the range of single items, from $3.99 to $39.99. We did not add up the full cost of every pack. We do not give a total.
Paralives has a different risk. The game is not finished. A player pays now for a game that will have more content later. The free updates are a promise. They are not in the game yet.
Should you buy Paralives now or wait?
Buy now if you like what the game has today and you accept an unfinished game. The price rises as the studio adds content, so an early buyer pays less. Every free update is included.
Wait if you want the features on the list, such as pets, pools, and cars. They are planned. They are not in the game. The studio gives no date for each one.

What counts as DLC, and what does not?
DLC is content that you buy after you buy the game. The studio pledges that it will not sell any. The pledge uses the words “paid DLCs”, and it says that the studio will release only free updates.
A free update is content that the studio adds to the game at no cost. You get it through Steam. You do not buy it.
The pledge does not name other products, such as a soundtrack, a book, or a toy. We found no statement about them. The pledge also does not stop another person from selling a mod.
Are mods paid in Paralives?
Not by the studio. The studio does not sell DLC. Mod authors are a different group. Sims Community quotes the team: for now it is choosing to allow paid mods. It is each person’s decision whether a mod is worth money.

How does this compare with The Sims 4?
The Sims 4 is the opposite model. The base game is free to download, and the content is for sale. The Steam page for The Sims 4 lists DLC and expansion packs at prices from $3.99 to $39.99.
The two models cost different amounts over time. A player who wants a few packs pays little for The Sims 4. A player who wants every pack pays much more. Paralives asks for one price now and nothing later, except the higher base price after 1.0.

Where does LifeSim fit?
LifeSim is free to play in the browser. It has no in-app purchases.
It does not replace Paralives. Paralives is a game about a house, a build mode, and a household. LifeSim is a game about one person in a real city on a map of Earth. You talk with the people there in open text. They remember what you say.
