Work schedule and pay in the Writer career
In the first five levels, you work 8 hours per day for 32 hours per week. Level 1 starts at 25 Simoleons per hour, which gives you 800 Simoleons per week. By level 5, your hourly rate reaches 50 Simoleons, and you take home 1,600 Simoleons per week.
Your work days shift as you advance through the early ranks. At level 1, you work Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday starting at 11:00. At level 5, you work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday starting at 08:00.
You also earn paid time off for each day you work, starting at 0.2 days at level 1. Certain traits and university degrees raise your hourly pay. A BA with honors in Language and Literature or Communications adds 41% to your hourly rate. The Knowledge trait adds 30%, Valedictorian adds 15%, and Business Savvy adds 10%.
Choosing between the Author and Journalist branches
At level 6, you must pick the Author branch or the Journalist branch. The Journalist branch pays more per week at the top rank. A level 10 Scribe of History earns 6,888 Simoleons per week across 24 hours of work.
The Author branch pays a higher hourly rate and gives you more free time. A level 10 Creator of Worlds makes 465 Simoleons per hour, compared to 287 for a top Journalist. At level 10 of the Author branch, you only work 12 hours per week on Tuesday and Saturday.
Pick the Journalist branch if you want the highest weekly income and a Monday through Thursday schedule. Pick the Author branch if you want a two-day work week with 5,580 Simoleons in weekly pay.
How to get promoted faster and use cheats
When your work performance is close to the promotion line, you have a 1% base chance for an early promotion. The Entrepreneurial trait multiplies this chance by 10. The Growth Mindset moodlet multiplies this chance by 5.
Poor performance can cost you your rank. If your performance falls to the demotion line at the end of work, the demotion chance is 100%. The Professional Slacker trait changes this multiplier to 0, which prevents demotion. If you quit the job, the level you rejoin at drops by one every 2 days.
