Your Sim starts at level 1 with morning shifts from Monday to Friday. You work 8 hours a day and earn 15 Simoleons per hour, which is 600 Simoleons per week. At level 3, the schedule moves to afternoon and evening shifts that cover the weekend.
By level 5, you work as a Line Cook for 32 hours per week and make 1,376 Simoleons. You also earn paid time off for each day you work, starting at 0.2 days at level 1. If your Sim quits the job, the level they rejoin at drops by one every 2 days.
Certain traits increase your hourly pay by a set percent. A Culinary Arts Degree (BA, honors) adds 41%, while a Mixologist Certification adds 32%. The Valedictorian trait adds 15%, and Business Savvy adds 10%.
Choosing the Chef or Mixologist branch
At level 6, you pick either the Chef branch or the Mixologist branch. The Chef branch is the best choice for money and free time at the top level. A level 10 Celebrity Chef works 24 hours per week and earns 9,840 Simoleons.
The Mixologist branch pays less and has longer shifts at the top levels. A level 10 Celebrity Mixologist works 10 hours a day on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. This schedule totals 30 hours per week and pays 5,910 Simoleons.
Getting promoted faster and using cheats
When your work performance is close to the promotion line, you have a 1% base chance for an early promotion. The Entrepreneurial trait multiplies this chance by 10. The Growth Mindset moodlet multiplies the chance by 5.
If your performance falls to the demotion line at the end of work, you have a 100% chance of demotion. The Professional Slacker trait multiplies this demotion chance by 0, which prevents demotions.
You can also use cheats in Live mode to change your career level. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac to open the console. Type testingcheats true, then enter careers.promote Culinary to move up one level.
