How do you get a boating license in BitLife?
Wait until your character is 18. Then open Activities, tap Licenses, and pick the boating license. Pay the fee and answer the test question. A correct answer gives you the license.
The boating license is not part of the teen years, as the driving license is. The game does not show you a pop-up for it. You must find it in the menu yourself. TouchTapPlay, The Nerd Stash, and Games Adda all give the age of 18.
How much does the boating test cost?
The fee is about $100 to $210. The sources do not agree on one number. Destructoid gives a range of $100 to $200. The Nerd Stash says $200. TouchTapPlay says $210. Read the price on the screen before you tap, because that price is the one that counts.
Do you need lessons before the boating test?
No. TouchTapPlay says the boating test needs no training time. This is different from the pilot license, which needs 40 hours of flight school first. For the full pilot path, read how to become a pilot in BitLife.
What are all the BitLife boating test answers?
The table below lists 25 boating test questions and their answers. Each answer comes from at least two guides, except two that only Destructoid lists. The third column names the guides that give the same answer.
Many questions show a picture of a marker, flag, or buoy. Gamertweak and TouchTapPlay do not describe most pictures. The descriptions in brackets come from Destructoid. Match the picture in your game to the description, then pick the answer.

Where do the guides disagree?
The guides agree on every answer that two of them list. They differ in how many questions they list. Gamertweak and TouchTapPlay list the same 19 questions. Destructoid lists 25. Games Adda lists 22, but that site copies other guides and has one joke answer. We left the joke out.
The four side-of-the-boat questions show an arrow on a picture of a boat. Destructoid describes the arrow by its direction on the screen, such as "arrow that points down". That direction depends on how the game draws the boat. Look at the part of the boat that the arrow marks instead. The front is the bow, the back is the stern, the left is port, and the right is starboard.
How many questions are on the BitLife boating test?
The newer guides describe one question per test. Destructoid says you get "a multiple-choice question, usually with images or symbols". No guide says if the game picks the question at random. The lists are the questions that the guides saw in their own tests.
One older guide disagrees. TouchTapPlay, from January 2022, says the test has more than 10 questions. It says you must answer all of them correctly. The page itself warns that it is more than four years old and can be out of date. If your test shows more than one question, use the same table for each one.
The driving test works in the same way: one road sign from a set of about 29 signs. Our BitLife driving test answers guide lists every sign.
What happens if you fail the boating test in BitLife?
You do not get the license, and you lose the fee. You can take the test again, but you must pay again. The Nerd Stash says each new try costs another $200.
TouchTapPlay adds that you must wait one year before the next try. Age up once, then go back to Activities and Licenses. No guide that we read gives a limit on the number of tries. The only limit is your money.
- Read all the options before you tap. Bow and stern, or port and starboard, are easy to mix.
- Keep this page open on a second screen, or note the answers you find hard.
- Save money before you start. Many fails at $200 a try cost a lot.

What is the boating license for in BitLife?
The boating license lets you buy a boat. Destructoid and The Nerd Stash both say this. You still need the money to pay for the boat itself.
How do you buy a boat and take it to sea?
- Get the boating license in Activities, then Licenses.
- Open Assets, then Go Shopping. Find the boat dealer under Specialty Vehicle Dealers.
- Pick a boat that your bank balance can pay for. You can give the boat a name.
- Open Assets, then Vehicles. Select the boat and tap Ride to take it to sea.
The Nerd Stash gives these steps. The menu names can change a little with updates.
Do you need a boating license for the Seaman Challenge?
You need a boat for it, and the boat needs the license. Destructoid says the Seaman Challenge asks for a boat worth at least $2,000,000, which you must sail three times. The challenge also asks you to serve in the Navy and to work as a Greenhorn, the crab fisher job. See our BitLife challenges guide for other challenges.
Does any job need a boating license?
None of the guides that we read lists a job that needs the boating license. Destructoid does not name the license as a step for the Greenhorn job. No guide says that a captain job needs it.
How is the boating test different from the driving and pilot tests?
The boating test is the middle step. It is harder to find than the driving test, but much cheaper and shorter than the pilot test. The table compares the three licenses.
| What you compare | Driving license | Boating license | Pilot license |
|---|---|---|---|
| When you can take it | Age 15 to 18, depending on the country | Age 18 or older | After university and 40 hours of flight school |
| Fee | About $40 to $90 a try | About $100 to $210 a try | Over $1,000, plus about $145 an hour of flight school |
| What the test asks | Name one road sign | Answer one boating question (older guides say more) | Four parts: a written question, a landing marker, a signal, an instrument |
| What it unlocks | Cars | Boats from the boat dealer | The pilot career |
The driving and pilot data come from the Destructoid guides for those tests. Destructoid says the driving and pilot fees change with your country. Treat each number as a guide, not a fixed price.

Is there a life sim without license tests?

LifeSim does not fit if you want BitLife’s quick taps and challenges. The people in LifeSim are AI characters with jobs, homes, and friends. You talk to them in your own words, and they remember you. Read what LifeSim is, or compare more options in games like BitLife.
