BitLife lawsuit guide

How to sue someone in BitLife: the menu path, who you can sue, which lawyer to pick, the time limit, getting sued, and lawsuit achievements.

Open the Activities menu and tap Lawsuit. The game then lists the people that you can sue. Pick one person, pick a lawyer, and pick the damages.

Gamezebo, iFanzine, and GamerTweak all give this menu path. The fan wiki lists Lawsuit in the Activities table with the text “Sue someone” and a minimum age of 18.

Steps to file a lawsuit

  1. Make sure that your character is 18 or older.
  2. Make sure that someone wronged your character. The list is empty without a reason.
  3. Tap Activities, then tap Lawsuit.
  4. Tap the person or the company that you want to sue.
  5. Pick one of the three lawyers: the cheap one, the medium one, or the expensive one.
  6. Pick one of the five damage amounts.
  7. Wait for the verdict.

If nobody wronged your character, the game says “You can’t think of anyone to sue right now.” iFanzine says: “If there’s nothing here, then you probably don’t have a case.”

How old are these guides?

The game added lawsuits in 2019. The fan wiki gives May 12, 2019 for iOS and June 12, 2019 for Android. Gamezebo (May 2019) says that the feature was only on iOS at first. That is not true now.

Most lawsuit guides date from 2019 to 2021. We opened every source on October 28, 2026. The App Store page shows version 3.26 today, so check the menus in your own game. New to the game? Read what BitLife is and how it plays.

You can sue a person or a company that wronged your character. The fan wiki lists eight types of target. Each target needs a specific event first.

WhoThe event that opens the lawsuit
Your assailantA person attacked you, and you did not attack them first
Your co-workerA co-worker attacked or insulted you at work
Your supervisorSexual harassment, or an attack by the supervisor
Your place of employmentThe company fired you or forced you to retire because of your age
Your plastic surgeonThe surgeon botched your plastic surgery
The city police departmentA false arrest with prison time, an attack during an arrest, or a failed search for a kidnapped spouse
Your spouseYour spouse cheated on you or insulted you, and you owe them money from the divorce
Your surrogate or a kidnapperA surrogate left with your baby, or kidnappers took a person close to you

Notes on each target

  • Assailant. The fan wiki says that you cannot sue a person if you tried a crime against them first. A case is easier to win if you did not provoke the attack.
  • Co-worker. The fan wiki says that this lawsuit “might be harder to win.”
  • Employer. The company does not give you the job back. The Careers page of the wiki adds one more fact. After the lawsuit, the company always refuses a new interview for that job.
  • Plastic surgeon. The surgeon refuses to operate on you again, whether you win or lose.
  • Surrogate. You do not get the baby back, even if you win.
  • Family. The Relationships page of the wiki says that you can sue family or a lover who attacked you.

The game does not let you sue for an event from your childhood. The fan wiki says that you cannot sue for something from before age 18, even after you turn 18.

Before you marry, read our BitLife prenup guide. A prenup protects money in a divorce. A lawsuit against a cheating spouse is a separate step.

Do you want to be the person with the scalpel instead? Read how to become a doctor in BitLife. If the police put you in prison by mistake, read how to escape prison in BitLife.

Pick the expensive lawyer if you can pay. The fan wiki says that the most expensive law firm usually has a higher chance to win. The cheap lawyer costs less if you lose.

GamerTweak (2021) says: “Choosing the best and expensive lawyer to win the lawsuit in BitLife is highly recommended.” It suggests that you wait and save money if you cannot pay for that lawyer.

What decides the result?

No source that we opened gives a formula. The guides name these factors:

  • The lawyer. The fan wiki says that the most expensive firm has a higher chance.
  • The type of case. The fan wiki says that cases against a co-worker or a normal firing are harder to win.
  • Who started it. The fan wiki says that an assault case is easier if you did not provoke the attack.
  • Luck. iFanzine (2019) says: “You’ll either win or lose depending on chance and, we guess, how good your lawyers are.”

Gamezebo (2019) also says that players lost good cases and won weak cases. So no lawyer gives you a certain win.

How much should you ask for in damages?

The game gives five damage amounts. The fan wiki does not say if a higher amount lowers your chance. We found no source that tests this.

The top amount can be large. The fan wiki says that the maximum damages for a botched surgery are slightly over $1 million. A win pays you the full damages that you picked.

Can a lawyer character work on your case?

We found no source that says so. The lawsuit screen gives you three law firms to pick from. If you want to play a lawyer, read how to become a lawyer and a judge in BitLife.

You lose the money that you paid for the lawyer. You get no damages. The fan wiki says that this is the only cost of a loss.

The other person can also react. The fan wiki lists two reactions after a loss. The person can laugh in your face, or call you an insult.

What happens if you win?

You get the damages that you picked. The fan wiki lists three reactions after a win:

  • The person cries when the judge reads the verdict.
  • The person threatens to kill you when you leave the courtroom.
  • The person yells an insult at you.

Results that stay after the verdict

LawsuitResult after a win or a loss
Plastic surgeonThe surgeon refuses to operate on you again
EmployerYou do not get the job back, and the company refuses new interviews
SurrogateYou do not get the baby back

One old rule is gone. The fan wiki says that a lawsuit against a sibling once emptied all of your relationships. The wiki believes that the developers removed this rule.

No source that we opened shows a way to undo a verdict. For other tricks, read our list of BitLife hacks.

Yes. Other characters can sue you in some events. The fan wiki names two cases in its achievements list.

  • An employee sues you. The “Lawsuit & Tie” achievement says “Get sued by an employee.” The wiki says to fire or yell at an employee of your business.
  • A driver sues you after a crash. The “Legal Eagle” achievement says “Win a lawsuit following a car accident.” The wiki says that reckless driving can cause a crash and a lawsuit against you.

For the car case, the fan wiki says to pick the most expensive law firm for your defense. It rates the achievement as Moderate.

Is there a counter-suit option?

We found no source that shows a counter-suit. The fan wiki says that you cannot sue a person if you tried a crime against them first. It also says that the city police department, not only people, can be a target.

Can you fake a reason to sue?

The game has a joke event for this. In the “False Claim” event, a friend tells you to fake a fall on a neighbor’s driveway. If you agree, the journal says that the fall “only hurt a lot, and I didn’t get any money.”

The fan wiki says that the “That’s a bad idea” choice raises your smarts. For how good and bad choices add up, read our BitLife karma guide.

The game gives you a limited number of years to sue after the event. The fan wiki says that you “must sue within a certain number of years per the statute of limitations.”

The fan wiki does not give the exact number of years. We found no source that tested it. So file the lawsuit soon after the event.

Should you wait to save money for a lawyer?

GamerTweak (2021) suggests that you wait if you cannot pay for the expensive lawyer. But the time limit can remove the person from the list. Use this decision rule:

  • If you can pay for the expensive lawyer now, sue now.
  • If you cannot pay, save for one or two years, then check the Lawsuit list each year.
  • If the case is weak, such as a normal firing, pick the cheap lawyer to lose less money.

Does age change the rule?

Yes. Your character must be 18 to sue. The fan wiki says that events from before age 18 never count.

Yes. The Karen Challenge asks for five lawsuits. Three achievements on the fan wiki also need a lawsuit.

The Karen Challenge

Level Winner (November 2020) lists five tasks:

  1. Be a female named Karen.
  2. Spread rumors about 10 or more enemies.
  3. Own and maintain a minivan.
  4. File 5 or more lawsuits.
  5. File 10 or more HR reports.

Level Winner says that the lawsuit option “is very seldom available in most BitLife situations.” It gives two ways to get a reason:

  • Insult or prank co-workers, and hope that they attack you. This can hurt or kill your character.
  • Pick a plastic surgeon with a red or orange skill bar. Then the surgeon will probably botch the surgery.

Level Winner also says that you can sue the same person more than once. XboxPlay (2020) says that more enemies give you more people to sue. This challenge ran in 2020, so the tasks may be different if it comes back. See our guide to BitLife challenges for how challenges work.

Achievements for lawsuits

AchievementTaskHow to get it
Rich JusticeWin a $1m+ lawsuitSue a surgeon who botched your surgery for the maximum damages
Lawsuit & TieGet sued by an employeeFire or yell at an employee
Legal EagleWin a lawsuit following a car accidentPick the most expensive law firm for your defense

The fan wiki says that none of the three needs an in-app purchase. For Rich Justice, it says to pick a surgeon with low credibility.

Is there a lawsuit ribbon?

We found no ribbon for lawsuits. The Ribbons page of the fan wiki mentions lawsuits once, in the notes for the Loaded ribbon. Loaded needs a net worth over $20 million. Lawsuits that you win add money, and lawsuits that you lose cost legal fees. Read our BitLife ribbons guide for the full list.

Yes, in part. We make LifeSim, so read this with that in mind. It is a free AI life simulation game with no ads and nothing to buy.

In LifeSim, you live one life, a day at a time, in a real city on Earth. The people are AI characters with jobs, homes, and friends. You talk to them in your own words, and they remember you. LifeSim plays in the browser and on iPhone.

LifeSim does not fit you if you want a lawsuit menu, damage amounts, or achievements. It has no such system. Season 1 is in beta. Stay with BitLife for court cases. Compare the two in LifeSim as a BitLife alternative, or read games like BitLife.

Why can’t I sue anyone in BitLife?

Nobody wronged your character, or your character is under 18. The game then says “You can’t think of anyone to sue right now.”

Can you sue your spouse for cheating in BitLife?

Yes, in some cases. The fan wiki says that you can sue a spouse who cheated or insulted you. You must also owe them divorce money.

Can you sue the police in BitLife?

Yes. The fan wiki says that you can sue the police for two reasons. One is a false arrest with prison time. The other is an attack during an arrest.

Can you sue someone from the mafia who attacked you?

The fan wiki says that you can sue any assailant whom you did not provoke. It does not mention mafia members. For the crime life, read how to join the mafia in BitLife.

Does God Mode help you win a lawsuit?

No guide that we opened says so. Read our BitLife God Mode guide for what the add-on edits.

How much money can you win in a BitLife lawsuit?

The fan wiki says that the maximum for a botched surgery is slightly over $1 million. That amount gives the Rich Justice achievement.
