What the Ambitious trait changes in play
Ambitious Sims react strongly to career changes. A promotion gives a Happy moodlet with a weight of 3 for 8 hours, instead of a weight of 1. A demotion gives an Embarrassed moodlet with a weight of 4, while getting fired gives a Sad moodlet with a weight of 5 for 1 day.
The trait also adds 2 unique Tense moodlets that each last for 4 hours. Your Sim gets the Unemployed moodlet with a weight of 2, and the Promotion Anxiety moodlet with a weight of 1. The game also checks for the Ambitious trait during 6 interactions, including Schmooze, Give Career Advice, Argue about Life Goals, Scoff, View Diploma, and Treadmill Accident.
Fame and swordplay moodlets change for Ambitious Sims as well. Gaining fame gives Confident moodlets for 4 hours instead of Happy ones, while losing fame causes Tense moodlets for 3 hours instead of Sad ones. Winning at swordplay or a tournament gives a Focused moodlet for 2 hours, and losing a tournament gives a Tense moodlet for 1 day.

This trait suits Sims who stay employed and work steadily toward promotions or fame. If your Sim has no job or loses progress, the Tense, Sad, and Embarrassed moodlets will pull their mood down.
You cannot combine the Ambitious trait with the Lazy trait or the Freegan trait. If you pick Ambitious in Create a Sim, the game blocks those conflicting traits.
