Freegan is a personality trait in The Sims 4 that comes with the Eco Lifestyle pack. You can give it to human Sims from the Teen age group up to the Elder age group. It adds 12 unique moodlets and replaces standard moodlets.

You can select the Freegan trait in Create a Sim or add it with a cheat in Live mode. It conflicts with the Squeamish, Snob, Foodie, Materialistic, and Ambitious traits. Three interactions in the game check for this trait.

What the Freegan trait changes in gameplay

The Freegan trait gives your Sim 12 unique moodlets, and each one lasts for 2.5 hours. The strongest one is Freed From the Rat Race, which adds a weight of 3 to the Happy emotion. Other positive moodlets add a weight of 1 or 2 to the Happy, Energized, Inspired, or Confident emotions.

This trait also brings negative moodlets that last for 2.5 hours. Consumerist Shame and Bad Deal make your Sim Tense, while Corporate Sellout makes them Uncomfortable. Unnecessary Spending gives a weight of 1 to the Embarrassed emotion.

Freegan replaces several standard moodlets and has no hidden multiplier effects or career pay bonuses. Instead of feeling Focused from Work Energy or Tense from being jobless, your Sim gets Fine moodlets with a weight of 1. It also replaces the Fine moodlet called Relaxing with a Tense moodlet called What Am I Doing?.

Who gets the Freegan trait and trait conflicts

Only human Sims who are Teens, Young Adults, Adults, or Elders can have the Freegan trait. The game checks for this trait on three interactions: Ask For Discount, Check if food is still fresh, and Dive for Ingredients. You cannot combine Freegan with Squeamish, Snob, Foodie, Materialistic, or Ambitious.

You can pick this trait in Create a Sim if you own the Eco Lifestyle pack. You can also add or remove it in Live mode using the cheat console. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac to open the box.
