What is XML Injector in Sims 4?
XML Injector is a free mod library for The Sims 4. Other mods use it to add interactions and other changes to the game. On its own, it does nothing in your game.
The official page says that the library lets mods “that would normally require a script for simple changes to instead use a custom snippet.” The library holds the script. The modder only writes a small XML file. This way, each mod does not need its own script.
We opened every source on this page on October 27, 2026. The Sims 4 and its mods change with each game update. Check the official page before you install.
Who makes XML Injector?
Scumbumbo made XML Injector. He first released it on ModTheSims in January 2019. A notice on that page from February 2020 says that the author “has passed on.” Snooty Sims says that he died in 2019.
Today, a group of mod authors runs scumbumbomods.com and keeps his mods working. The XML Injector page credits Triplis for the latest update. The CurseForge page says that Triplis maintains the library. It also lists TURBODRIVER and LittleMsSam as maintainers.
What does XML Injector add to the game?
For players, it adds only a test interaction. For modders, the official page lists what the library can do. Some of the items are:
- Add interactions to game objects, to the Sim, to the relationship panel, and to the phone panel.
- Add loot actions, and add buffs to traits.
- Add states to objects.
- Add Reward Traits to the store, from version 3.

Do I need XML Injector for Sims 4?
You need XML Injector only when a mod that you use says that it needs it. If no mod asks for it, do not install it.
The official page says it clearly. You “only need to download and install this library mod if another mod you download tells you that you must have this installed.” Snooty Sims gives the same advice. It says that not every mod with scripts needs XML Injector.
Which mods need XML Injector?
Many gameplay mods that add interactions need it. The mod page always tells you. Look for “XML Injector” in the list of requirements on the download page of each mod.
One example is Urban Neighborhood Gossip by JayESims on CurseForge. Its page says: “If the XML Injector is not installed, certain interactions, buffs, and trait features will not appear or work as intended.”
Simple custom content, like clothes or furniture, usually does not need it. Snooty Sims says that many mods are “drop and go.” Our Sims 4 CC guide covers that type of download.
Do I need one copy for each mod?
No. Install one copy only. The official page tells modders not to put the library in their own downloads. This rule makes sure that each player has only one copy of the script. If you find a second copy in your Mods folder, delete the older one.

How do you install XML Injector for Sims 4?
Download the zip file from scumbumbomods.com, extract the two files into your Mods folder, and turn on script mods. Then test it at a mailbox.
- Open the official page at scumbumbomods.com/xml-injector.
- Click Download. Do not download the Modders Documentation. Players do not need it.
- Open the zip file. It has two files:
XmlInjector_Script_v4.2.ts4scriptandXmlInjector_Script_Test_Users_v4.2.package. - Extract both files into your Mods folder. EA says that this folder is in the Electronic Arts folder, in The Sims 4 folder.
- Start the game. Open Game Options, then Other.
- Make sure that Enable Custom Content and Mods is on. Also turn on script mods.
- Restart the game.
The official page says that the script mods setting is “very important.” XML Injector is a script. If the game blocks scripts, XML Injector cannot work.
Do you not know where the Electronic Arts folder is? Our Sims 4 save file location guide shows the path of The Sims 4 folder on Windows and Mac.
How do you test XML Injector?
Click the mailbox of a household. The test package adds an interaction with the name “XML Injector Test.” Click it. The game shows a notification that XML Injector works.
If you do not see the interaction, the official page says that XML Injector “is not installed properly.” After a good test, you can delete the test package. Keep the .ts4script file in your Mods folder. Without it, the mods that need it stop working.
Can you install XML Injector with CurseForge?
Yes. XML Injector has a CurseForge page, owned by the account ScumbumboCF. The page showed 10,847,065 downloads today. Our Sims 4 mod manager guide explains how the CurseForge app installs mods.
Can XML Injector go in a subfolder in the Mods folder?
Put it directly in the Mods folder. This is what the official page says. It is the safe choice.
The official page says to install it “directly into your Mods folder, and not a subfolder.” The reason that it gives is simple. You can find the file easily when you need to update it.
Other sources say that one subfolder is also OK. The JayESims page says: “no more than one subfolder deep.” Ravasheen gives the general rule for all script mods. It says that a .ts4script file “can only be installed one folder deep inside your Mods folder.”
| Where the file is | Example | Works? |
|---|---|---|
| Directly in Mods | Mods / XmlInjector_Script_v4.2.ts4script | Yes. The official page asks for this. |
| One subfolder deep | Mods / Scripts / XmlInjector_Script_v4.2.ts4script | Yes, says the general rule for script mods. |
| Two or more subfolders deep | Mods / Scripts / Library / XmlInjector_Script_v4.2.ts4script | No. The game does not load the script. |
Ravasheen says that package files can go up to 5 folders deep. The script file is the one that needs care. To keep hundreds of files in order, read our Sims 4 Studio guide and its notes on package files.
Does XML Injector work with the latest Sims 4 update?
The current version is 4.2. The official page says that it works with game patch 1.116.202 and newer. Triplis updated it on September 22, 2025.
The CurseForge page lists game versions up to 1.128.90 for the same file. The status page at scumbumbomods.com covers patch 1.128. It lists XML Injector v4.2 in the group “Status Not Confirmed.” So the maintainers did not mark it as tested for that patch on the day that we checked.
What to do after a game update
The official page tells players to check back “a day or two after game updates” if the mod stops working. Follow these steps:
- Open the official page and compare the version number with the number in your file name.
- If a newer version exists, delete your old file. Then install the new one.
- Update the mods that need XML Injector too. A new XML Injector does not fix an old mod.
Which version of XML Injector do I have?
Read the file name. The official page says that the version is “denoted by the _v4.2 in the filenames.” A file with v2 or v3 in the name is an old version. When you upgrade, remove the old one. The ModTheSims page gave the same warning in 2019: “Don’t forget to remove version 1 when you upgrade!”
Other big script mods also need updates after a patch. See our MC Command Center guide and our UI Cheats Extension guide.
Is XML Injector safe for Sims 4?
Yes, when you download it from the official page or the official CurseForge page. Snooty Sims calls it “a perfectly safe item to have in your Mods folder.”
XML Injector is a script, so it runs code in the game. That is why the source matters. Download it only from scumbumbomods.com or from its CurseForge page. Do not use a copy from a mirror site or from a file that a mod includes. The official page tells modders: “Do not distribute the library with your own mod.”
EA does not check mods. The EA help page says that “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” It also tells players to download “only from a trusted source or creator.”
Does XML Injector work on console?
No. EA says that mods are only for PC and Mac. You cannot add mods on PlayStation or Xbox. Read more in our Sims 4 console vs PC comparison.
Why is XML Injector not working?
Most problems come from four causes: script mods are off, the file is too deep, the version is old, or a second copy exists. Check each one.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The test interaction is not on the mailbox | Turn on script mods, move the file into Mods, and restart the game. |
| The mods stopped after a game update | Get the newest XML Injector and the newest version of each mod that needs it. |
| You have two versions in your Mods folder | Delete the older file. Keep only the v4.2 script. |
| A mod asks for a newer version than yours | Download the current version from the official page. |
What players saw after one update
In October 2024, players on the Steam forum for The Sims 4 reported “script error” messages after a patch. One player wrote that the error was “specific to mods that use the XML Injector.” Another player said that Triplis had updated XML Injector the day before.
Not every player had the same cause. One player fixed the errors when the player turned off two other mods, Basemental and Better Build Buy. So a new XML Injector is not always the fix. An old mod that uses it can also cause errors.
How does Better Exceptions help?
Better Exceptions by TwistedMexi reads the error reports of the game. Its page says that it gives “better exception reports including gameplay exceptions, UI issues, conflicting mods, and CAS glitching.” Use it to find the mod that causes an error.
If the report names XML Injector, also check the mods that use it. The Steam thread shows that an old mod can be the cause. Our Better Exceptions guide shows how to install it and read a report.
Is there a life sim that needs no mods?
Yes. LifeSim is a free life simulation game with no mods and nothing to install. You play it in the browser or in the iPhone and iPad app.
In LifeSim, you make a character and pick a real city on Earth. The population around you has its own memory, goals, and daily routine. You talk with people in open text, not in menus. Many players use XML Injector mods to get new interactions. In LifeSim, you type what you want to say.
LifeSim does not fit you if you want to build houses, make custom content, or mod a game. It has no Mods folder and no build mode. It also has no Android app or PC app yet. Stay with The Sims 4 for those things. To learn more about the genre, read what a life simulator is.
Questions
Is XML Injector a script mod?
Yes. The main file is a .ts4script file. You must turn on script mods in Game Options for it to work.
Where do I download XML Injector?
Download it from scumbumbomods.com/xml-injector or from the XML Injector page on CurseForge. Both are in the sources below.
Can I delete the XML Injector test file?
Yes, after a good test at the mailbox. The official page says that you may remove the test package. Keep the script file.
Does XML Injector cause lag?
We found no source that measured it. The official page says that on its own the mod “does nothing” and works in the background.
Is XML Injector the same as MCCC?
No. MCCC is a different mod by Deaderpool. XML Injector is a library that other mods use.
Does XML Injector work on Mac?
EA says that mods work on PC and Mac. The official XML Injector page does not name a platform. Read our Sims 4 on Mac guide for the Mac setup.
