Sims 4 CC

CC means custom content. It is new items that players make for The Sims 4: hair, clothes, makeup, furniture, and objects. You download the files and put them in the Mods folder. Then they show in the game next to the items from EA.

This post explains how CC differs from mods, how to install it safely, where to find it, and how to fix it after a patch.

You read this on the LifeSim blog. We make a browser life sim, and it has no CC. We say where that matters.

CC adds new items. A mod changes how the game behaves: a new rule, a new action, or a change to an old one. Many players use the word “mods” for both.

The file type tells you which one you have. A file that ends in .package is usually CC. A file that ends in .ts4script is a script mod. Script mods change the rules of the game, so they break more often after a patch.

1. Close the game.
2. Go to Documents, then Electronic Arts, then The Sims 4, then Mods.
3. If the CC came in a zip file, extract it.
4. Put the .package files in the Mods folder, or in a subfolder of it.
5. Start the game. Press Esc, and open Game Options, then Other.
6. Select “Enable custom content and mods”.
7. Restart the game.

After the restart, look in Create-A-Sim for hair and clothes. Look in Buy Mode and Build Mode for objects.

PCGamesN says the game stops reading subfolders that are more than five folders deep. Keep your folders shallow.

EA itself says to back up your data and take care with mods. Our advice, which is not from a source:

• Copy your saves and the Mods folder to a safe place before you add new CC.
• Download only from sites and creators that many players know.
• Be careful with any file that is not a .package file. A .exe file is not CC.
• Add a few files at a time, then test. If the game breaks, you know which files to check.
• Make one subfolder for each creator, so you know where each file came from.

CurseForge is the official mod site for The Sims 4. EA announced the deal with Overwolf, which runs CurseForge, in October 2022. You can get CC and mods there, on the website or in the CurseForge desktop app.

EA also said that creators do not have to use CurseForge. Many creators post CC on their own pages. Check that a creator is well known before you download.

Some CC needs a pack. Hair made with items from a pack may need that pack to show. Read the notes on the download page.

First check the setting. PCGamesN says “Enable custom content and mods” may reset after an official patch. Turn it on again and restart.

If the CC still does not work, try these steps. They are our advice, not from a source:

1. Delete the file localthumbcache.package in The Sims 4 folder. The game makes a new one.
2. Move all script mods out of the Mods folder. CC files break less often than script mods.
3. Start the game. If it works, add the script mods back one at a time.
4. If an item still shows wrong, move half of your CC out and test. Repeat with the half that has the problem.
5. Check the creator page for a new version of the file.

No. LifeSim has no CC and no Mods folder. You describe your character in one text box, for example “Maya Chen, 28, a kind florist in Paris. Curly brown hair, green eyes.” The game reads the look from the text and draws a portrait. You can also upload a photo and the game turns it into a character look.

LifeSim does not have the item catalog of The Sims 4. If you want to build houses and dress Sims in thousands of items, stay with The Sims 4 and its CC. Read life simulator for what LifeSim does, or games like The Sims for other picks.

Why is my CC not showing up?

Check that “Enable custom content and mods” is on, and restart the game. Check that the files are less than six folders deep.

Is Sims 4 CC free?

Many creators share CC for free. Some CC needs a paid pack to work. Read the notes on the download page.
