Is The Sims 4 cross-platform?

Is The Sims 4 cross-platform? Learn what moves between PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation: saves, packs, the Gallery, and multiplayer.

Partly. The game runs on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation. The platforms do not play together, and they do not share saves.

A purchase of any edition on PC includes the PC version and the Mac version. Your account then works on both. Console versions stand apart. You buy them again on the console.

This guide answers the real questions behind the search: can you move a save, can you share a house, can you play with a friend, and will your packs follow you.

EA lists four platforms in its FAQ: PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation.

  • PC and Mac share one purchase. A purchase of any edition includes both versions.
  • The Mac version is digital only.
  • You need an EA Account and the EA app to install and register the game on PC and Mac.
  • Console versions come from the store of the console.

Steam is a store for PC, not a new platform. Steam says that you must link your EA Account and your Steam Account to play. EA shares account and play records with Steam to check purchases and refunds.

The base game is free to download. The packs cost money. Read is The Sims 4 free for the full price picture.

No. EA says that on console, saves and creations are tied to the platform where you made them. You cannot move them to another platform.

The jeu.video guide, from September 2026, says the same. It says that saves and creations may stay specific to their original platform. It also says that the game does not sync saves through a cloud between computers.

If you start on a console and move to a PC, you start a new save. Plan for this before you build a long family.

Yes, by hand. EA gives these steps:

  1. Find the saves folder inside the Sims 4 folder on the PC.
  2. Copy it to a USB drive.
  3. On the Mac, rename or delete any existing saves folder in the matching Sims 4 folder.
  4. Paste the copied saves folder there.

EA says that cloud saving through the EA app is not supported. The jeu.video guide gives the same advice and names the path Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4.

Close the game before you copy. Keep the copy of the old folder until you check that the new save opens. A copy costs nothing, and a lost save costs a lot of time.

For where the files live on each system, read the Sims 4 save file location.

In 2019, the Sims team said on a livestream that the Gallery was coming to Xbox One and PS4. SimsCommunity reported it on 16 December 2019. The report says that the Gallery would be cross-platform. PC players could upload content for console players, and the other way round.

The same report says that console Gallery creations would not support custom content at first. The team called it “in the works”.

The current EA FAQ is stricter about consoles. It says that the Gallery, mods, custom content, and social events such as challenges are not available on console. We found no way to reconcile the two sources. The FAQ is newer and comes from EA. Follow the FAQ, and check the game on your own console.

The Gallery shares things you build, not progress. The jeu.video guide says that a downloaded Sim or house does not bring the relationships, the career, the money, or the state of the neighbourhood of the person who made it.

No. The jeu.video guide says that the game has no official multiplayer mode between PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox. Each player runs a separate solo game. No invitation lets two players join one household.

The EA FAQ does not mention cross-play at all. We found no EA page that promises it. Read Sims 4 multiplayer for the fan-made options on PC.

You can still share what you make. Console players can share screenshots and stream with the tools of their console. EA lists both.

Between PC and Mac, yes. EA says that content you buy on PC and Mac with the same EA Account works on both.

Between a computer and a console, no. EA says that content you buy on one platform cannot transfer to another. The jeu.video guide adds that you check purchases in the EA app on PC and Mac, and in the store of each console.

EA also says that console content matches the PC and Mac content, with prices on par with PC, not counting sales. There is no season pass.

Before you buy a pack, check the platform that you use. For which pack to buy first, read the first Sims 4 expansion pack to buy.

Choose by what you want from the game.

  • You want mods and custom content: choose PC or Mac. Console has neither, says EA.
  • You want to play on a sofa: choose a console. Nearly every PC cheat works there, says EA.
  • You use both a PC and a Mac: one purchase covers both. Copy the saves by hand.
  • You want to play with a friend: no platform gives you that, so choose the one you like.

LifeSim does not solve the platform problem of The Sims 4. It is a different kind of game. It is a web game, so it opens in a browser. We do not offer a console version.

It does give one thing that The Sims 4 does not. You live one life in one city on a real map, and the people there answer in their own words. If you want that, read LifeSim vs The Sims.

Use the store of the platform. On PC and Mac, open the EA app. On a console, open the store of the console. The jeu.video guide gives the same advice.

EA says that retail bundles are sold only in stores. You redeem the code in the EA app. This is a PC and Mac route, so a bundle code does not help a console player.

Write down which store you used for each pack. If you play on two platforms, you will thank yourself later.
