Does Sims 4 City Living come with a new world?
Yes. The world is San Myshuno. The Sims Wiki says that the city takes ideas from Tokyo, San Francisco, and New York City. It also shows Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Moroccan culture.
The four neighborhoods of San Myshuno
- Spice Market: food stalls, a karaoke bar called Waterside Warble, and a basketball court.
- Arts Quarter: small apartments, murals, and the Casbah Gallery, which is an arts center.
- Fashion District: the Planet Honey Pop! karaoke bar and the Torendi Tower Penthouse.
- Uptown: three apartment buildings, the Stargazer Lounge, and the Skye Fitness gym.
Each neighborhood feels different. The EA page asks you to paint a mural in the Arts Quarter and sing at the karaoke bar. The wiki adds a talking toilet, bubble bars, fireworks, and street performers to the city.
How do apartments work in Sims 4 City Living?
An apartment is a home in a shared building. You pay rent, and a landlord fixes things that break. Your Sim lives close to other households, so neighbors are part of daily play.
What changes when you live in an apartment
- Neighbors make noise. Your Sim can knock on the door and complain.
- Pests, such as roaches, can come into the unit.
- The landlord repairs pipes, wiring, and appliances, says the GamingTrend review.
- Your Sim can give a key to a friend. That friend can then walk in at any time.
- Each unit has lot traits, such as Gnomes or Haunted. Some traits are locked and you cannot remove them.
GamingTrend also says that you can rent a unit empty or furnished. A furnished unit costs more. The reviewer liked the goal of starting in a cheap unit and saving up for a better one.

Can you build apartments in City Living?
No. You can change the inside of an apartment, but you cannot edit the outside of the building. The Sims Wiki says that apartments exist only in San Myshuno and in Evergreen Harbor, from Eco Lifestyle.
How penthouses are different
San Myshuno has three penthouses. Only one household lives in each, so a penthouse has no neighbors. You can demolish a penthouse and build a new one. Add an elevator, a mailbox, and a recycle bin, or the lot does not work.
What festivals are in City Living?
The pack has five festivals. They move around the neighborhoods on a two-week cycle. A bulletin board in each apartment building shows the next festival. A notification also appears when a festival starts, and you can use it to travel there.

- Romance Festival: a place to meet someone and kiss.
- Spice Festival: spicy food from the stalls.

GeekCon was the favorite festival of the GamingTrend reviewer. Festivals also sell shirts, snow globes, and fireworks.
What careers does City Living add?
City Living adds three careers. Each career splits into two branches. On a work day, your Sim gets a phone alarm one hour before work. You can pick “Go to Work,” “Work from Home,” or “Take the Day Off.”

How work from home works
Pick “Work from Home,” and the game gives your Sim two random tasks. Do the tasks to raise job performance. If your Sim does not do them, the boss is not happy and performance goes down.

What else does City Living add?
The Singing skill
Singing is the new skill. The pack adds karaoke machines and two karaoke bars. The City Native aspiration asks you to reach level 4, and later to master the skill. Our Sims 4 skills guide shows how to level up other skills.
The food stalls
Food stalls sell food from one country each. After your Sim eats a stall dish, your Sim learns to cook it. The stalls in San Myshuno change at 2:00 AM each day. Monday, for example, has Indian food in the Spice Market.
Stalls in the neighborhood get a vendor by themselves. If you put a stall on your own lot, hire a vendor for §100. One stall sells fresh produce and spices.
The City Native aspiration
The aspiration has four levels. The tasks include orders from food stalls, a kiss at the Romance Festival, and a mural at the arts center. The reward trait is In the Know. Sims with this trait get a large discount when they haggle at market stalls.
Is Sims 4 City Living worth it?
It is worth it if you want city life, careers with tasks, and neighbors close by. It is less useful if you mostly build houses. You cannot build apartments, and only the penthouses are open to full builds.
What a reviewer said
GamingTrend gave the pack 80 out of 100. The reviewer called it “one of the best expansion packs in the entire series.” The reviewer also said that it is light on content if the city does not interest you. The review found some crashes, camera problems in tall buildings, and many loading screens.
