Milestones are important moments in the life of a Sim. Each one shows an icon and stays in the memory of the Sim. Every age group has milestones, from infants to elders.

Milestones for infants and toddlers

Infants learn to roll over, sit up, babble, and crawl. Their first bath and their first new food are also milestones. Learning to stand is also a milestone. Play with the infant and use the playmat to make these milestones come faster.

Milestones for children

Children lose their baby teeth and learn to ride a bike. After they learn, they can ride the bike anywhere.

Milestones for teens, adults, and elders

Older Sims get milestones for love and work. Examples are falling in love, getting married, having a baby, a first promotion, and getting fired. Bad luck counts too, such as starting a fire or getting struck by lightning.

One complaint from the KeenGamer review: the game shows no progress bar for milestones. Hover over a milestone to see the goal and how to reach it.

Family dynamics

A family dynamic sets the tone of a relationship between two family members. The KeenGamer review names Close, Supportive, Distant, and Jokesters. Set them in Create-a-Sim, or let them change through play.

Each pair in a family can have a different dynamic. A child can be close with one parent and distant with the other. Family relationships can bring drama or unity, as the Steam page says.

Social compatibility

Each Sim now has a compatibility rating with every Sim that they meet. The rating comes from likes and dislikes, from traits, and from conversation topics. Sims with many shared likes get along fast. Sims with opposite likes often clash.

Being family does not mean good compatibility. Two sisters can share a room and still clash. Read our Sims 4 relationship cheats if you want to fix a relationship fast.

Infants

The infant life stage came in a free base game update at the same time as the pack. Infants get quirks, such as Early Riser, Messy Eater, and Gassy. The pack adds care items like a changing station and a playmat. It also adds infant clothes.

Toddlers

Toddlers can also get quirks. Examples are Picky Eater, Loves Water, and Hates Bedtime. Cribs can turn into toddler beds.

Children

Children get 4 new aspirations in the Multi-Skill category. Each one mixes at least two child skills:

  • Slumber Party Animal
  • Mind and Body
  • Playtime Captain
  • Creative Genius

Children also get bikes, a treehouse, a splash pad, sleeping bags, and friendship bracelets. Parents can plan slumber parties for their children. The KeenGamer review says some slumber party interactions did not work.

Self Discoveries and new traits

Sims from the child age up can have Self Discoveries. A Self Discovery offers a new trait, such as Active or Clumsy. You can accept or reject it. The trait comes from what the Sim does in daily life. Adults can gain traits up to a limit.

See our list of Sims 4 traits for the traits in the base game.

Midlife crisis

Adults can have a midlife crisis. The EA page calls it an unexpected milestone. The KeenGamer review says that there are 4 types, with themes such as creativity and adventure.

Move-in requests

Family members can ask to move in with an adult Sim. The answer of the Sim affects how the Sim develops. Moving the family in is also a milestone.

Elders

Elders can do power walks in the park and jigsaw puzzles at the Rec Center. The pack also adds signs of aging for elder Sims in Create-a-Sim.

The Zatu review says the later life stages can feel slow. Change the lifespan setting if that happens. Our Sims 4 lifespan guide shows how.

San Sequoia is a town on an ocean bay. It grew from a small fishing village. The KeenGamer review says that it is based on San Francisco. It has three neighborhoods:

  • Anchorpoint Wharf has a theater and a splash pad play area.
  • Gilbert Gardens has a lake with nature paths.
  • Hopewell Hills is a quiet residential area with modern and craftsman homes.

The Rec Center is the new community lot. It has workout equipment, chess, a barbecue, mahjong, and jigsaw puzzles. The Robles family lives in the town. The EA page calls the Robleses an influential local family.

The world has a weak point. Both reviews say that it has few empty lots, and that those lots are small. KeenGamer counted 3 empty lots, at 20 x 30 or 30 x 30.

It is worth it if you play families over many generations. The milestones and the family dynamics give each Sim a history. The pack works well for a Sims 4 legacy challenge.

KeenGamer gave it 8 out of 10 and called it a must-have for family players. The Zatu review put it high on its list of packs to buy.

Growing Together or Parenthood?

This is a common question. In a Steam Community thread, one player calls Growing Together “Parenthood 2.0.” The same player says Growing Together adds more gameplay, and suggests owning both. Parenthood costs $19.99 on Steam, and Growing Together costs $39.99.

When to skip it

Skip it if you want careers, travel, or a large world to build in. The pack adds no new career, and San Sequoia is small. A player in a SnootySims article says the many pop-ups are not for everyone. Compare other packs in our list of Sims 4 expansion packs. For teen life, read about Sims 4 High School Years.

  • They leave the infant alone. Infants need a lot of care, so plan time for feeding, bathing, and play.
  • They accept every Self Discovery. Read each new trait first, and reject the ones that do not fit your story.
  • They ignore compatibility. Check the likes and dislikes of two Sims before you push them to become friends.
  • They plan to build big in San Sequoia. The empty lots are small, so move to another world for a large house.
  • They leave the lifespan on long. The later life stages can feel slow, so pick a shorter lifespan if you get bored.

Child skills matter for the new aspirations. Our Sims 4 skills guide shows how to level them up.

LifeSim is a free life sim on a real 3D map of Earth. It has no ads and no subscription. You play in the browser or on iPhone. The people have jobs, homes, and friends. They talk back in your own words and remember you.

LifeSim is not The Sims. It has no build mode, no cheats console, and no packs to buy. If you like the family stories of Growing Together, you may like a life where people remember what you said. Read games like The Sims or the LifeSim life simulator.

Do you need Growing Together to have infants?

No. Infants came in a free base game update. The pack adds more infant items, clothes, and milestones.

Is Growing Together on PS5 and Xbox?

Yes. GGRecon says that it came out on PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox on March 16, 2023.

Can you turn off Self Discoveries?

You can reject each new trait when the game offers it. The trait does not get added if you say no.

Can you age up Sims faster to see more milestones?
