How do you become a vampire in The Sims 4?
First, get The Sims 4 Vampires game pack. Then use one of three ways. Make a vampire in Create a Sim, ask a vampire to turn your Sim, or have a vampire baby. A cheat also works.
The pack came out on January 24, 2017, for PC. It came to consoles on November 17, 2017. It adds the vampire life state and the world of Forgotten Hollow. This guide uses the EA Help pages and The Sims Wiki, which we opened on October 21, 2026.
Make a vampire in Create a Sim
This is the fastest way. Open Create a Sim and select “Add Occult Sim.” Then choose the vampire. You can pick fangs, eye colors, pale skin tones, and veins.
You can also design a Dark Form. The vampire switches to this second look to feed and to turn other Sims. The Dark Form is optional. A vampire has the same powers with or without it.
Ask a vampire to turn your Sim
Make friends with a vampire. Then use the “Ask to Turn” interaction. If the vampire agrees, it bites your Sim and offers its blood. Some guides say that a good friendship makes a yes more likely.
A vampire can only turn a Sim if it has the Vampire Creation power. The new vampire becomes the “offspring” of the vampire that turned it. Your own vampire can also turn Sims who did not ask.
Have a vampire baby
The Sims Wiki says that a child with one vampire parent has a 50% chance to be a vampire. With two vampire parents, the child is always a vampire. A lot with the On a Dark Ley Line trait also gives a small chance. Read how to have a baby in The Sims 4 for the steps.
The official pack text says that baby, toddler, and child Sims do not become vampires until they are teens.
How long does it take to turn into a vampire?
It takes about 36 hours of game time. Your Sim does not change right after the bite. Instead, three moodlets come one after the other.
- “Strangely Hungry.” The Hunger need drains. It lasts about 12 hours.
- “Disgusted by Food.” It lasts about 12 more hours.
- “Appetite Lost.” Food moodlets stop until the change ends.
After that, your Sim is a vampire. It gets a “Thirsty” moodlet for its first 24 hours. Give it plasma soon. The next section explains why.
What are the Sims 4 vampire cheats?
Open the cheat console and type testingcheats true. Then type one of the cheats below. EA gives these keys to open the console:
- PC: Control + Shift + C. On a Mac, guides say to use Command, not Control.
- PlayStation: R1 + R2 + L1 + L2 at the same time.
- Xbox: RB + RT + LB + LT at the same time.

The Vampire Lore cheat comes from EA. The other cheats come from two fan guides that agree. Some guides say that the Vampire Lore skill stops at level 10. EA says that it goes to level 15.

What powers and weaknesses do Sims 4 vampires have?
A vampire has 25 powers and 11 weaknesses. It earns power points as it moves up through five ranks. At each new rank, it must also take a weakness.
The five vampire ranks
- Vampire Fledgling
- Minor Vampire
- Prime Vampire
- Master Vampire
- Grand Master Vampire
The Sims Wiki lists the ways to earn rank. Spar with other vampires. Study Vampire Lore. Get a mentor of a higher rank. Use powers, and drink plasma.
Some of the powers
Each rank opens five powers. Some examples are Bat Form, Mist Form, Supernatural Speed, Mesmerize, Command, Garlic Immunity, and Tamed Thirst. Some powers conflict with some weaknesses. You cannot take both.
The game keeps giving power points after the top rank. So one vampire can get almost all the powers. To start again, drink the Draught of Reconfiguration. It gives back all the power points.

Every vampire also starts with basic weaknesses. The sun burns it. Garlic takes away its appetite. Powers use up its Vampire Energy. For more trait ideas, read our guide to Sims 4 traits.
What do vampires eat in The Sims 4?
Vampires drink plasma. A Thirst need replaces Hunger. Vampire Energy replaces Energy, and vampires have no Bladder need.
Where to get plasma
- Drink from a Sim. Ask for a drink, or use a power to make the Sim agree.
- Eat a Plasma Fruit. At Vampire Lore level 8, buy the seeds on the computer.
- Drink a Plasma Pack. At Vampire Lore level 3, order them on the computer.
- Make Plasma Packs from fish or frogs, at Vampire Lore level 4.
- Make a Plasma Fruit Salad or a Plasma Jane drink, at Vampire Lore level 9.
Watch the Thirst need. The Sims Wiki says that a very thirsty vampire attacks a random Sim. This hurts the relationship a lot.
A drink without permission can also make a vampire with the Guilty Drinker weakness feel stressed. Use the relationship cheats if a bite goes wrong.
Can Sims 4 vampires go out in the sun?
Yes, but the sun is dangerous. EA says that too much sun uses up the Vampiric Energy of the Sim. Then the Sim dies.
EA gives the fix. Give the vampire the Perfect or Greater Sun Resistance effect. It makes the vampire immune to sunlight. The Sun Resistance power has three tiers.
Other ways to stay safe
- Drink a Sunlight Reversal Cocktail, at Vampire Lore level 11.
- With the Seasons expansion pack, go out on cloudy or stormy days.
- With Seasons, carry an umbrella in the day.

How do you cure vampirism in The Sims 4?
Make The Ultimate Vampire Cure and drink it. EA says that a Sim needs Vampire Lore level 15 to make it. The cure turns the vampire back into a normal Sim.
- Raise the Vampire Lore skill to level 15.
- Collect 10 garlic, 10 wolfsbane, and 10 Plasma Fruit.
- Go to a bar and choose Make Drink, then The Ultimate Vampire Cure.
- Have the vampire drink it.
EA gives the skill level. Two fan guides list the same ingredients, and they also list a cost in Simoleons.
How to raise Vampire Lore
EA lists these ways. On the computer, choose More Choices, then Vampire Secrets, then Search for Information on Vampires. You can also ask other Sims about vampire history. Then read the four Vampire Tomes as they unlock.
Other ways to cure a vampire
Another Sim can carry the cure and use the Slay Vampire interaction. If that Sim wins the fight, it throws the cure at the vampire. The Sims Wiki also says that some fairies can absorb vampirism. Or use the remove cheat from the table above.
The cure is not forever. A cured Sim can become a vampire again in the same ways.
Where does LifeSim fit?
