Death by Anger

A young adult or older Sim who stays Enraged can die in an angry outburst. The chance is 16.67% per outburst animation. Safe: Servo, Vampire, werewolves in wolf form, pregnant Sims.

To cause Death by Anger in The Sims 4, you must make a Sim Enraged. Enraged is the strongest level of the Angry emotion. You reach this state when you stack angry moodlets on your Sim.

This death comes with the base game and uses tuning ID 101679. Only young adults, adults, and elders can die from anger. Once your Sim is Enraged, each emotional outburst has a chance to kill them.

How to make it happen

  1. Stack angry moodlets until the Sim is Enraged, the strongest level of Angry.
  2. Keep them Enraged: each outburst can be fatal.
  3. Only young adults, adults and elders can die this way.

How to avoid it

  1. Get the Sim out of Enraged before the next outburst.
  2. Children and teens can't die of anger, and neither can vampires.
  3. The Supreme Authority trait (Star Wars: Journey to Batuu) lowers the odds.
  4. Type death.toggle false to switch death off.

The game never lets this death happen to: Servo, Vampire, werewolves in wolf form, pregnant Sims.

These moodlets stop it before the end: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, Grimbucha'd.

The ghost

A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Anger. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.

To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Anger. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.

To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).

How the Enraged outburst roll works

Reaching the Enraged state does not cause an instant death. Instead, your Sim performs an emotional outburst animation while the emotion is at its strongest. The game rolls for death during each outburst animation.

Each outburst has a 16.67 percent base chance to cause Death by Anger. The game picks between a fatal outcome with a weight of 1 and survival with a weight of 5. Because the survival weight is higher, your Sim usually survives the first outburst.

If your Sim survives the animation, a cooldown starts. This lockout lasts between 30 and 50 minutes in the game. You must keep the Sim Enraged until the cooldown ends so they trigger another outburst.

Who is safe and how to survive

Some Sims cannot die from anger at all. Children and teens are safe from this death type, and vampires are also immune. To save a vulnerable Sim, lower their anger to leave the Enraged state before the next outburst.

Specific traits and states also change the outcome. The Supreme Authority trait lowers the odds of dying from an outburst. Sims also survive if they have Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or Grimbucha'd.

You can also use a cheat to prevent death during play. Open the cheat console in Live mode with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Type death.toggle false to stop every death that runs through a death interaction.

The Anger ghost and resurrection cheat

When a Sim dies from an Enraged outburst, they turn into a ghost. The game gives the Sim the Death by Anger ghost trait, named trait_ghost_Anger. Note that the death.toggle false cheat does not stop Sims from becoming ghosts by other means.

You can bring a ghost in your household back to life with the cheat console. First, open the console in Live mode. Then, type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Anger to remove the ghost trait and resurrect your Sim.
