How do you die of vending machine in The Sims 4?
Death by Vending Machine
Shaking a vending machine can hurt a Sim, and shaking it again while hurt can crush them. The chance is 15% per shake. With every condition that raises it, it reaches 18.88%. Safe: pregnant Sims.
Death by Vending Machine comes with The Sims 4 Snowy Escape expansion pack. To cause this death, make your Sim shake a vending machine until they get the Close Call moodlet.
Once your Sim has the Close Call moodlet, tell them to shake a vending machine again. Each shake while hurt has a 15% base chance to crush and kill your Sim.

How to make it happen
- Shake a vending machine (Snowy Escape) until it hurts the Sim (Close Call).
- Shake it again while Close Call lasts.
- Angry, Uncomfortable, Technophobe, Clumsy and very tired Sims fail more often.
How to avoid it
- Don't shake a vending machine while Close Call is showing.
- Techie Sims are more likely to get their item out.
- Type death.toggle false to switch death off.
The game never lets this death happen to: pregnant Sims.
These moodlets stop it before the end: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, Grimbucha'd.
The ghost
A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Vending Machine. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.
Every ghost type and its powers are on the ghosts page.
To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_VendingMachine. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.
To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).
How shaking a vending machine kills a Sim
First, find a vending machine from the Snowy Escape pack. Command your Sim to shake the machine until the interaction hurts them. This injury gives your Sim the Close Call warning moodlet.
Shaking the machine a single time does not cause death. Your Sim only faces danger if you make them shake a vending machine while the Close Call moodlet is active.
When a hurt Sim shakes the machine, the game rolls between three weighted outcomes. Getting the item out has a base weight of 6, a neutral outcome has a weight of 2.5, and death has a weight of 1.5. This gives a 15% base chance of death per shake.
What changes the odds and who is safe
Several conditions increase the weight of both the death outcome and the neutral outcome by a 1.15 multiplier. This happens if your Sim is Angry, is Uncomfortable, or has the Technophobe trait. Having the Clumsy trait or very low Energy at or below -50 also adds a 1.15 multiplier to each.
Conversely, the Techie trait helps your Sim stay safe when shaking a machine. It applies a 1.25 multiplier to the weight for retrieving the item without dying. To avoid this death completely, simply wait for the Close Call moodlet to expire before shaking another machine.
Some statuses protect a Sim from being crushed by a vending machine. Sims are safe if they have Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or Grimbucha'd. You can also prevent death by opening the cheat console in Live mode and typing death.toggle false.
The vending machine ghost and resurrection cheats
When a vending machine crushes your Sim, they die and receive the Death by Vending Machine ghost trait. If you want to bring the ghost back to life, add them to your active household.
Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac to open the cheat console. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_VendingMachine in Live mode. Removing this trait immediately turns the ghost back into a living Sim.
