A young adult or older Sim who is Mortified can die of embarrassment in an outburst. The chance is 16.67% per outburst animation. Safe: Servo, Vampire, pregnant Sims.

In The Sims 4, a Sim can die of embarrassment in the Base game. To trigger this death, you pile up embarrassing moodlets until your Sim reaches the Mortified emotion.

Only young adults, adults, and elders can die this way. Once your Sim is Mortified, each emotional outburst animation has a 16.67 percent chance to kill them.

How to make it happen

  1. Pile up embarrassing moodlets until the Sim is Mortified.
  2. Keep them Mortified: each outburst can be fatal.
  3. Only young adults, adults and elders can die this way.

  1. Get the Sim out of Mortified before the next outburst.
  2. Children, teens and vampires can't die of embarrassment.
  3. Type death.toggle false to switch death off.

The game never lets this death happen to: Servo, Vampire, pregnant Sims.

These moodlets stop it before the end: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, Grimbucha'd.

The ghost

A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Embarrassment. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.

To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Embarrassment. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.

To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).

How the Mortified outburst check works

Death by embarrassment does not happen the moment your Sim becomes Mortified. Instead, the game waits for your Sim to perform an emotional outburst while the emotion is at its strongest.

Each outburst animation runs a weighted draw. The fatal outcome has a weight of 1, and survival has a weight of 5, giving a 16.67 percent base chance of death.

If your Sim survives the animation, a cooldown starts. The game waits between 30 and 50 minutes before another outburst can check for death again. You can save your Sim if you get them out of the Mortified state before the next outburst.

Who is safe from embarrassment death

Age and occult status protect certain Sims from this death. Children, teens, and vampires cannot die of embarrassment, even if they have embarrassing moodlets. Only Young Adult, Adult, and Elder Sims are at risk.

No traits or conditions multiply the 16.67 percent base chance during the outburst check. However, several states save a Sim from dying: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, and Grimbucha'd.

You can also prevent this death with a cheat. Open the cheat console in Live mode with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Type death.toggle false to stop every death that runs through a death interaction.

The embarrassment ghost and how to resurrect

When a Sim dies from an emotional outburst, they receive the Death by Embarrassment ghost trait, named trait_ghost_Embarrassment. The tuning ID for this death type is 101682.

You can bring a ghost in your household back to life using the cheat console in Live mode. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Embarrassment to remove the ghost trait and restore the Sim.
