A Sim who plants a stink capsule again after stinking themselves can die from the fumes. The chance is 54.55% per prank. Safe: Servo, pregnant Sims.

In The Sims 4 High School Years, a Sim can die from a stink capsule prank. To cause this death, make your Sim plant a stink capsule and fail. This failure gives the Sim the Self-Stinked warning moodlet.

While your Sim has the Self-Stinked moodlet, order them to plant a stink capsule again. Trying the prank a second time while stinking triggers a 54.55 percent base chance of death from the fumes.

How to make it happen

  1. Plant a stink capsule (High School Years) and fail, so the Sim is Self-Stinked.
  2. Plant another one while Self-Stinked.

How to avoid it

  1. Don't plant a stink capsule while Self-Stinked.
  2. Mischief at level 6 or higher makes a clean plant more likely.
  3. Type death.toggle false to switch death off.

The game never lets this death happen to: Servo, pregnant Sims.

The ghost

A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Stink Capsule. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.

To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_StinkBomb. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.

To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).

How the stink capsule prank kills your Sim

A single failed stink capsule prank will not kill your Sim. The first failure applies the Self-Stinked moodlet. The danger only starts if you attempt to plant another stink capsule while that moodlet is active.

When a Self-Stinked Sim plants a capsule, the game picks from three weighted outcomes. The death outcome has a weight of 6, a successful plant has a weight of 4, and another non-lethal outcome has a weight of 1. With no other conditions active, your Sim faces a 54.55 percent base chance to die per prank.

Skills, moods, and protections that change the odds

Your Sim's skill and mood change the outcome weights during the second prank attempt. If your Sim has Mischief skill at level 6 or higher, the weight for a clean plant multiplies by 3. If your Sim is Angry, Bored, Dazed, Embarrassed, Sad, Tense, or Uncomfortable, the weight for the other non-lethal outcome multiplies by 3. Because the non-lethal weights go up, the chance of dying goes down.

Certain statuses protect a Sim from dying this way. Sims with Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or Grimbucha'd survive the fumes. You can also avoid this death by not planting a stink capsule while Self-Stinked, or by turning deaths off.

The stink capsule ghost and cheat options

A Sim who dies from the fumes becomes a ghost with the Death by Stink Capsule trait. The game files list this trait as trait_Ghost_StinkBomb. If the ghost is in your household, you can bring them back to life with a cheat.

Open the cheat console in Live mode with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_StinkBomb to revive the Sim. To stop deaths that run through a death interaction before they happen, enter death.toggle false in the cheat box.
