How do you die of electrocution in The Sims 4?
Death by Electrocution
Repairing electronics with low Handiness can shock a Sim, and a second shock while still Seriously Fried can kill. The chances: 100% getting shocked again as a Clumsy (or Chased by Death) Sim; 100% getting shocked again while the hidden shock meter is still at 90 or more; 75% getting shocked again once the shock meter is below 90; 87.5% getting shocked again with Handiness at level 9 or higher, without the Handy or Tormentor trait; 50% getting shocked again as a Handy or Tormentor Sim. How long Seriously Fried lasts: 180 Sim minutes. Safe: Servo, pregnant Sims, Maker.
In The Sims 4, Death by Electrocution is a base game death that happens in two stages. First, your Sim gets shocked while repairing electronics with a Handiness skill at level 9 or lower. That first shock gives the Sim the Seriously Fried warning moodlet.
The Seriously Fried moodlet lasts for 180 in-game minutes. If your Sim gets shocked again before this timer ends, they have a high chance of dying. You can cause this death by making a Sim keep repairing while they have the warning moodlet.

The timer
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| How long Seriously Fried lasts | 180 Sim minutes |
| How long the shock meter stays at 90 or more after Seriously Fried starts, for a Sim with no shock traits | 33.3 Sim minutes |
The warning moodlet is called Seriously Fried.
How to make it happen
- Repair electronics with Handiness at level 9 or lower; the lower the skill, the more often the Sim gets shocked.
- Being Angry or Clumsy, or needing the bathroom badly, makes shocks more likely.
- Keep repairing while the Sim is Seriously Fried: Clumsy Sims die every time, and so does any Sim shocked again soon after the first warning.
How to avoid it
- Stop repairing while the Sim is Seriously Fried.
- A Focused mood or the Handy trait lowers the build-up to a shock.
- Handy and Tormentor Sims have the lowest odds on a second shock.
- Type death.toggle false to switch death off.
The game never lets this death happen to: Servo, pregnant Sims, Maker.
These moodlets stop it before the end: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, Grimbucha'd.
The ghost
A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Electrocution. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.
Every ghost type and its powers are on the ghosts page.
To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Electrocution. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.
To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).
How the two shocks and timer work
A single electric shock does not kill a Sim. When a Sim with a Handiness skill of level 9 or lower repairs electronics, they can get shocked. Lower Handiness levels make these shocks happen more often.
The first shock applies the Seriously Fried warning moodlet for 180 minutes. If you want your Sim to survive, stop repairing while the Sim is Seriously Fried. Once the 180 minutes pass, the warning disappears and the danger resets.
If you want the Sim to die, keep repairing while the Sim is Seriously Fried. Getting shocked again during those 180 minutes triggers the death roll. For a regular Sim, a quick second shock kills every time: a hidden shock meter stays at 90 or more for about 33.3 minutes after Seriously Fried starts, and while it does the chance is 100 percent. After that, the chance is 75 percent.
Traits, moods, and immunity that change the odds
Several traits and moods change how often a Sim gets shocked and whether the second shock is fatal. Being Angry, having the Clumsy trait, or needing the bathroom badly makes shocks more likely. If a Clumsy Sim gets shocked again while Seriously Fried, the base chance of death is 100 percent.
You can also lower the risk of Death by Electrocution. A Focused mood or the Handy trait lowers the build-up to a shock. If a Sim with the Handy or Tormentor trait takes a second shock while Seriously Fried, their chance of death drops to 50 percent. A Sim with Handiness at level 9 or higher but neither trait rolls both the 75 and the 50 percent chances, so 87.5 percent.
Some Sims cannot die from this cause at all. Servo Sims, Makers and pregnant Sims are immune to Death by Electrocution. Sims are also safe if they have the Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or Grimbucha'd states.
The electrocution ghost and cheats to use
When a Sim dies from a second shock, they receive the Death by Electrocution ghost trait. In the game files, this trait has the name trait_ghost_Electrocution. If the ghost is in your household, you can bring the Sim back to life with a cheat.
Open the cheat console in Live mode with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Electrocution. Removing this ghost trait turns a ghost in your household back into a living Sim.
If you want to prevent death before it happens, enter the cheat death.toggle false. This command stops every death that runs through a death interaction. It does not stop a Sim from turning into a ghost by other means.
Questions
How do you trigger Death by Electrocution in The Sims 4?
Have a Sim with Handiness at level 9 or lower repair electronics until they get shocked and receive the Seriously Fried moodlet. Keep repairing while the Sim is Seriously Fried so they get shocked a second time.
How long does the Seriously Fried moodlet last?
The Seriously Fried warning moodlet lasts for 180 minutes. If your Sim avoids a second shock during those 180 minutes, they will not die.
Does a second shock always kill a Sim?
Not always. A standard Sim dies every time if the second shock comes while the hidden shock meter is still at 90 or more (about 33.3 minutes after Seriously Fried starts), and 75 percent of the time after that. Handy or Tormentor Sims have a 50 percent chance. Clumsy Sims have a 100 percent chance and die every time they get shocked while Seriously Fried.
Can a Servo die of electrocution?
No, Servo Sims, Makers and pregnant Sims are immune to Death by Electrocution.
