Death by Meteorite

Using a telescope can call down a meteor that lands on the Sim a short while later. The chance is 1% per telescope action. Warning before the meteor lands: 20 Sim minutes. Safe: Servo, pregnant Sims.

To cause Death by Meteorite in The Sims 4, direct your Sim to watch the sky through a telescope. Each telescope action gives a 1% chance to trigger an incoming meteor. This death type comes with the base game, so you do not need any expansion packs.

When the random check succeeds, your Sim receives a warning moodlet. This starts a countdown of 20 Sim minutes before the meteor lands. Once the timer reaches 0, the meteor strikes your Sim and kills them.

The ghost

A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Meteorite. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.

To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_Meteorite. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.

To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).

How the telescope triggers a meteor strike

Your Sim risks a meteor strike whenever they use a telescope to watch the sky. The game runs a random check for each telescope action with a 1% base chance. Because the chance is low, you must repeat telescope actions many times if you want this death to happen.

If the 1% roll hits, the game gives your Sim the IT'S COMING RIGHT FOR ME moodlet. This warning starts a hidden counter at 60 that drops by 3 each Sim minute. You have 20 Sim minutes before the counter hits 0 and the meteor lands on your Sim.

Who survives and how to prevent the meteor

No traits, moods, or objects change the 1% base chance of calling down a meteor. The game files list no multipliers for this telescope action. Each time your Sim looks through the lens, the odds stay the same.

Certain statuses protect your Sim and save them from dying when the meteor lands. Sims survive if they have Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or Grimbucha'd.

If your Sim lacks these protections, you can avoid the death by not using telescopes. You can also open the cheat console in Live mode and enter death.toggle false before stargazing. This cheat stops every death that runs through a death interaction.

The meteorite ghost and how to revive them

When the meteor kills your Sim, they turn into a ghost with the Death by Meteorite ghost trait. If the ghost is in your household, you can bring them back to life with a cheat.

To revive a ghost in your household, press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac in Live mode. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_Meteorite into the cheat box. Removing the ghost trait from a ghost in your household brings the Sim back to life.
