A Murphy bed that malfunctions while being pulled down can crush the Sim. The chance is 30% per malfunction. With every condition that raises it, it reaches 81.08%. Safe: pregnant Sims.

To die from a Murphy bed in The Sims 4, you need the Tiny Living Stuff pack. Your Sim must pull down a Murphy bed until the object malfunctions. Each time the bed malfunctions while your Sim pulls it down, there is a 30% base chance of death.

You can increase this chance by leaving the Murphy bed broken. If you want to keep your Sim safe, repair the bed when it breaks or use a cheat to turn death off.

How to make it happen

The ghost

A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Being Crushed by a Murphy Bed. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.

To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_MurphyBed. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.

To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).

How the Murphy bed kills your Sim

Death by Being Crushed by a Murphy Bed happens when your Sim pulls down the bed and it malfunctions. You do not get a warning moodlet or a timer before this death happens. Instead, the game rolls the odds each time a malfunction occurs.

When the bed malfunctions, the game picks between two weighted outcomes. The safe outcome has a weight of 7, and the fatal outcome has a weight of 3. This gives your Sim a 30% base chance of dying per malfunction.

If you want to trigger this death, tell your Sim to pull down the Murphy bed until it malfunctions. Leaving the bed broken makes the fatal outcome much more likely.

Who is safe and what changes the odds

Two factors increase the weight of the fatal outcome. If the Murphy bed is broken, the game applies a 2.5 multiplier to the death weight. If your Sim has the This Is Your Final Warning... moodlet from the Chased by Death trait, a 4 multiplier applies.

Some Sims cannot die this way. Children and Servo robots have a 0 multiplier on the death outcome, so the bed cannot crush them. Sims are also safe if they have the Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or Grimbucha'd statuses.

To lower the risk of this death, repair the Murphy bed when it breaks. You can also open the cheat console in Live mode and type death.toggle false. This cheat stops every death that runs through a death interaction.

The Murphy bed ghost and resurrection cheats

When a Murphy bed crushes your Sim, they die and receive the Death by Being Crushed by a Murphy Bed ghost trait. Note that the death.toggle false cheat does not stop a Sim from turning into a ghost by other means.

You can bring a crushed Sim back to life using the cheat console in Live mode. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac to open the box.

Make sure the ghost is in your active household, then enter traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_MurphyBed into the console. Removing this ghost trait restores your Sim to life right away.
