The game classifies this outcome as a certain death when the interaction runs. You can prevent it by feeding the plant regularly or by using specific protections. If a Sim dies, you can bring them back with a trait cheat.

How to make it happen

  1. Let a cow plant go hungry.
  2. Have the Sim choose Eat Cake while it's hungry.

How to avoid it

  1. Feed the cow plant so it isn't hungry.
  2. A Sim with a Death-Proof potion moodlet, Total Immortal or a Grimbucha moodlet survives.
  3. Type death.toggle false to switch death off.

The ghost

How the cow plant kills your Sim

First, you must let a cow plant go hungry. When the plant is hungry, select your Sim and choose the Eat Cake interaction on the plant. The hungry cow plant then eats your Sim.

The game files list no countdown timers or warning stages for this event. It is a certain death, which means the interaction kills a standard Sim without a random roll. If you want to keep your Sim alive, just feed the cow plant so it does not get hungry.

Who is safe from the cow plant

A Servo is completely immune to Death by Cow Plant. Other Sims survive if they have specific protections active. Having Total Immortal or a Death-Proof potion moodlet saves your Sim from the plant.

Several Grim-related protections also block this death. A Sim survives if they have Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, or a Grimbucha'd moodlet. These protections override the certain outcome of the Eat Cake interaction.

You can also disable death interactions using the cheat console in Live mode. Open the console with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC, or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Type testingcheats true, then enter death.toggle false to stop every death that runs through a death interaction.

The cow plant ghost and resurrection

When a Sim dies this way, they become a ghost with the Death by Cow Plant trait. The game files identify this specific trait as trait_ghost_Cowplant. While death.toggle false stops death interactions, it does not stop a Sim from becoming a ghost by other means.

You can revive a ghost in your household by removing their ghost trait in Live mode. Open the cheat console and type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Cowplant. Removing this trait from a household ghost immediately brings the Sim back to life.
