Death by Fire

A Sim who catches fire and isn't put out in time burns to death. Safe: Servo, pregnant Sims.

To cause Death by Fire in The Sims 4, let a Sim catch fire and keep burning. You only need the Base game for this death.

Do not put the fire out in time. Make sure the Sim is not standing in the rain, because rain saves a burning Sim from dying.

How to avoid it

  1. Rain outside saves a burning Sim from dying (Seasons).
  2. Type fire.toggle_enabled false (with testingcheats on) to stop fires.
  3. Type death.toggle false to switch death off.

The game never lets this death happen to: Servo, pregnant Sims.

These moodlets stop it before the end: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, Grimbucha'd.

The ghost

A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Fire. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.

To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Fire. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.

To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).

How a Sim dies from fire

First, a Sim must catch fire. Next, you let the Sim keep burning without putting the flames out in time. If nobody extinguishes the Sim, the fire kills them.

This death is certain once the Sim burns long enough without rescue. You do not wait for a random chance roll. The only requirement is that the Sim does not stand outside in the rain.

Who is safe from fire death

Death by Fire affects Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder Sims. Younger ages do not die from this cause. With the Seasons pack, rain outside saves a burning Sim from dying.

Several states also save a burning Sim. These include Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, and Grimbucha'd.

You can also stop fire deaths with cheats in Live mode. Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Type testingcheats true, then enter fire.toggle_enabled false to stop fires, or death.toggle false to stop every death that runs through a death interaction.

The fire ghost and resurrection cheats

When a Sim dies from burning, they become a Death by Fire ghost. The game gives the Sim the trait_ghost_Fire trait and tuning ID 101676.

You can bring a ghost in your household back to life with the cheat console in Live mode. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Fire to remove the ghost trait and resurrect the Sim.
