How do you die of pufferfish in The Sims 4?
Death by Pufferfish
A Sim who eats Pufferfish Nigiri can be poisoned by it and die on the spot. The chance is 0.5% per serving eaten. With every condition that raises it, it reaches 100%. Safe: Servo, pregnant Sims.
In The Sims 4, a Sim can die from eating Pufferfish Nigiri. This dish comes with the City Living expansion pack. Every serving eaten runs a chance to poison the Sim.
This death has no warning and no timer. If the game rolls a lethal outcome, your Sim dies right away. You can raise the risk by serving Poor quality food to a Sim in a bad mood.

How to make it happen
- Eat Pufferfish Nigiri (City Living).
- Poor quality nigiri multiplies the odds.
- Eating it in a negative mood multiplies them again.
- The Fear of Death trait multiplies them too.
How to avoid it
- Only eat Outstanding quality nigiri: the odds drop to zero.
- Vampires can't die from it.
- Mermaids get the Intense Tingling moodlet instead of the deadly roll.
- Type death.toggle false to switch death off.
The game never lets this death happen to: Servo, pregnant Sims.
These moodlets stop it before the end: Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, Grimbucha'd.
The ghost
A Sim who dies this way becomes a ghost with the trait Death by Pufferfish. The game gives each death type its own ghost trait.
Every ghost type and its powers are on the ghosts page.
To bring the ghost back to life with a cheat, type traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_Pufferfish. Removing its last ghost trait makes the Sim alive again.
To stop your Sims from dying at all, type death.toggle false (what death.toggle does).
How eating Pufferfish Nigiri kills your Sim
To trigger this death, direct your Sim to eat a serving of Pufferfish Nigiri. The base chance of dying from a single serving is 0.5 percent. Under normal conditions, a Sim usually survives the meal.
Several factors multiply the base risk when your Sim finishes the dish. Eating Poor quality nigiri multiplies the chance by 6, which raises the risk to 3 percent. Eating while in a negative mood also multiplies the odds by 6.
These negative moods are Angry, Bored, Dazed, Embarrassed, Sad, Tense, and Uncomfortable. Because these multipliers stack, feeding Poor quality nigiri to a Sim in a bad mood increases the danger. If you want to cause this death, combine poor food quality with one of those emotions.
Who is safe and what changes the odds
This death affects Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder Sims. Vampires are safe because their death multiplier is 0. Mermaids do not roll for death at all, and they get the Intense Tingling moodlet instead.
Food quality and specific traits change the math. Outstanding quality nigiri drops the multiplier to 0, which keeps your Sim safe unless they have the This Is Your Final Warning... moodlet. That moodlet comes from the Chased by Death trait and multiplies the risk by 30, for a 15 percent chance.
The Fear of Death trait multiplies the base chance by 3, which gives a 1.5 percent risk on its own. Certain protections also save Sims from dying, including Death-Proof, Total Immortal, Feeling Grim, Grimness Intensifies, Grim Overload, and Grimbucha'd. You can also open the cheat console in Live mode and type death.toggle false to stop every death that runs through a death interaction.
The pufferfish ghost and how to resurrect them
When a Sim dies from this dish, they become a ghost with the Death by Pufferfish trait. In the game files, this is trait_Ghost_Pufferfish. The death happens on the spot with no warning stage beforehand.
You can bring a ghost in your household back to life using the cheat console. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac in Live mode. Enter traits.remove_trait trait_Ghost_Pufferfish to remove the ghost trait and resurrect your Sim.
