Sims 4 patch notes

The newest Sims 4 patch came on October 27, 2026. See what it changed, where EA posts the patch notes, and how to fix mods after a patch.

The latest Sims 4 patch came out on October 27, 2026. The patch notes list PC 1.129.39.1030, Mac 1.129.39.1230, and Console 2.40.

EA calls it “The Next Quality of Life Update.” It is a free base game patch. It changes food and dining, adds options for weight and muscle, and fixes more than 150 bugs. It also adds free items for elder Sims.

We read the EA patch notes on November 1, 2026. This page tells you what the patch changed and where EA posts each list. It also tells you how to update the game and what to do when your mods break. You read this on the LifeSim blog. We make a different life sim, and we say where our game does not fit.

The October patch changes food, gives you control of body changes, and fixes many bugs.

Weight and muscle options

Two new Game Options, “Allow Weight Changes” and “Allow Muscle Changes,” apply to the whole save. Each Sim also gets the self-interactions “Disable Weight Changes” and “Disable Muscle Changes.” EA says that these options do not apply to pets such as cats, dogs, or horses.

Food and dining

EA moved the “Open” option of the fridge to the front of the menu. The patch changes the prices and calories of food and drinks. Sims now prefer leftovers when they are hungry. Family Recipes now has more than 375 dishes.

The patch also has more than 25 fixes for Dine Out. Sims no longer leave the table to hug or to look at decor. For the full pack, read our Dine Out guide.

Other changes

  • You can lock a TV to a Sim or a category, as you can with a computer.
  • Self-interactions move into a new “Sim Options...” category.
  • Save Backup tracks time better when you do not play for a long period.
  • The patch adds 14 new fixes for crashes and asserts on PC, Mac, and console.
  • Free elder items for Create a Sim and Build Mode, a Styled Room, and a Gallery household.

EA says that the crash fixes of the September patch caused a “notable decrease in crash rates across all platforms.” For a list of all packs, go to the Sims 4 packs page.

EA posts the patch notes on the news page of The Sims 4 at ea.com. Each patch has a post with the date and the version numbers for PC, Mac, and console.

About one week before a patch, EA posts a “Laundry List.” The October 20 post says: “Welcome to the Laundry List, where we share the fixes coming in our next game update on October 27.” The Laundry List is a preview. The patch notes are the final list.

Fan sites such as Sims Community and Destructoid also write about each patch. They are useful, but they are not the official list. Always check the EA post for the exact version number.

In 2026, EA released a patch about once a month. EA does not publish a fixed calendar.

The September patch changed how Sims choose what to do. Sims face each other when they talk. Sims also avoid activities that they dislike. The August patch added an image cache that makes the Marketplace load faster.

The October 20 Laundry List looks ahead to a December patch. It names about 25 possible bugs and expects to fix about 10 of them. We did not find a date for that patch.

On PC and Mac, the EA app or Steam downloads the patch. On console, you check for the update from the game menu. Back up your files first if you use mods.

EA app and Steam

The Steam page says that the game needs the EA app and an EA account. This is also true when you play on Steam. If the game acts strangely after a patch, repair the files:

  • EA app: open Library, select The Sims 4, then select Manage, then Repair.
  • Steam: right-click the game, select Properties, then Installed Files, then “Verify integrity of game files.”

EA’s guide says that a repair does not touch your Mods folder. It still tells you to back up the folder first. For more on the Steam version, read is The Sims 4 on Steam?

PlayStation

Highlight the game and press the Options button. Select “Check for Update.” Follow the instructions on the screen. Sony says that a PS5 also updates a game when you start it.

Xbox

We could not open the Xbox help page today, so we give no steps here. Check the Xbox support site. To compare the platforms, read Sims 4 on console vs PC.

A patch changes the game code, and old mods do not match the new code. EA also turns off mods and CC after a base game patch.

The October patch notes say: “many top crash reports continue to be closely linked to outdated or conflicting mod files.” The September notes say the same about the top crash report of that month. EA points players to its “Mods & Game Updates” guide on the EA Forums. We read that guide in a copy on SnootySims.

What to do after each patch

  1. Close the game. Copy the Saves folder and the Mods folder to a safe place.
  2. Write down the name and the creator of each mod.
  3. Start the game once with no mods and no CC.
  4. Get new versions from the creators who posted updates for the new patch.
  5. Delete the file localthumbcache.package from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4. Do this each time you change your mods.
  6. Open Game Options, then Other. Turn on “Enable Custom Content and Mods.” Turn on “Script Mods Allowed” if you use script mods. Restart the game.

Do not save a game with mods while the mods are turned off. EA’s guide says that the game can remove modded content from that save. Some mods also change save data for good, so a backup matters. To find your files, read where the Sims 4 save files are.

Update MCCC first

MC Command Center is a popular script mod. Check that its version matches your patch. The download page lists version 2026.6.0. It says that the creator tested it with the October 27, 2026 patch (PC 1.129.39.1030, Mac 1.129.39.1230). Read our MCCC guide for the steps.

Find the mod that breaks the game

EA’s guide gives the 50/50 method. Move all files out of the Mods folder. Put back one half and test the game. If the game breaks, the problem is in that half. Split that half again until you find the file. Keep each mod together with the mods that it needs.

A tool can help you sort the folder. Read about the Sims 4 mod manager and Better Exceptions, which often names the broken mod. For the basics of the Mods folder, read our guide to Sims 4 mods.

We found no way from EA to go back to an older patch. EA’s patch notes and EA’s mod guide do not give a rollback option.

What you can keep is your own files. Back up the Saves folder and the Mods folder before each patch. If a patch breaks a save, you can then put the old save back. Wait for your mods to get updates before you load that save.

Problems can come from the patch itself. On February 3, 2026, Sims Community reported a patch that players said moved the game from 1.121 back to 1.120. Some players then could not start the game. EA_Cade said: “We’re aware that some of you are experiencing issues with today’s Base Game Update.” Players advised deleting the file gameversion.txt. That advice came from players, not from EA.

EA lists the bugs it plans to fix in the Laundry List on the news page. EA keeps no other list of known issues that we could open today. The EA Forums have boards for bug reports, but the forum pages did not load for us.

The patch notes also name some problems that stay after a patch. The October notes say that some saves may need lot details rebuilt after the fix for rentals. Some square restaurant tables may disappear from old builds. The fix for restaurant staff uniforms does not apply to old saves.

EA also says that some conflicts with mods are “outside our direct control to resolve.” In that case, ask the creator of the mod. If you want changes without mods, try the Sims 4 cheats, which the game includes.

LifeSim, our game, runs in the browser at play.lifesim.com. You do not download a patch, and you do not manage a Mods folder.

This is also where LifeSim does not fit. LifeSim has no mods, no CC, and no build mode. If you love to fix up a modded Sims 4 game, stay with The Sims 4. LifeSim is free with no ads. You live one life in a real city on a 3D map of Earth. You talk with people in your own words.

What version is The Sims 4 now?

The October 27, 2026 patch notes list PC 1.129.39.1030, Mac 1.129.39.1230, and Console 2.40.

When is the next Sims 4 update?

We did not find a date. The October 20 Laundry List looks ahead to a December patch. Watch the news page for the next Laundry List.

Does a patch delete my mods?

EA’s guide says that a base game patch turns mods and CC off. It does not say that a patch deletes them. Back up the Mods folder anyway.

Is the update free?

Yes. The October patch is a free base game patch. The Steam page lists the base game as free to play.

Do patches change the game on console?

Yes. Each patch note gives a console version number. The October patch improves PlayStation load times from Live Mode to Build Mode.
