How to edit a Sim in The Sims 4

For clothes and hair, click a mirror or a dresser and pick Change Sim. For everything else, use the cheat. Open the cheat box, type cas.fulleditmode, then shift-click the Sim and pick Modify in CAS. Create a Sim then opens with no locks.

Full edit mode lets you change the face, the body, the name, the traits, the aspiration, and the age. Without the cheat, the game locks most of these after you start to play.

There are also ways without a cheat for some changes. A potion resets traits. The aspiration panel changes the aspiration.

We checked these steps against eight guides, an EA update note, and a Steam thread on November 2, 2026. The guides do not all write the cheat the same way. We give each version below.

What does Change Sim at the mirror do?

It opens a small Create a Sim. GGRecon says that you can change the outfits and the aspiration there. It also says that you cannot change the physical look of the Sim.

How do you change traits without cheats?

Buy the Re-Traiting Potion in the Rewards Store. Sims Community lists it at 5,000 Satisfaction Points. Gfinity says that the potion works only for the Sim who bought it. Drink it, and you can pick all the traits again.

See every trait in the Sims 4 traits list, and every reward in the Rewards Store. If you cannot decide, try the random trait generator.

How do you change an aspiration?

Open the aspiration panel and click the icon for a new aspiration. Gamepressure and Destructoid both describe this. Destructoid says that your Sim keeps the bonus trait of the first aspiration. See the full list of Sims 4 aspirations.

1. Load the household in Live Mode. Do not open Create a Sim yet.
2. Open the cheat box. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC, or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. On a console, press the four shoulder buttons together.
3. Type testingcheats true and press Enter.
4. Type cas.fulleditmode and press Enter.
5. Close the cheat box. Shift-click the Sim and pick Modify in CAS.
6. Make your changes, and click the check mark to save.

On console, GGRecon says to press A and B together on Xbox, or X and O on PlayStation, in place of the shift-click. The guides also say that you can enter from a mirror or a dresser after the cheat.

Why is cas.fulleditmode not working?

• You typed it inside Create a Sim. Leave Create a Sim, type the cheat in Live Mode, and enter again.
• You typed it with a period at the end. A Steam reply says that a final period stops the cheat. Type it with no spaces.
• The guides write it in different ways. GGRecon and The Nerd Stash use testingcheats on and cas.fulleditmode on. Try that version if the first one fails.
• Modify in CAS is not in the menu. A Steam reply says to type the cheat in the world view, and then edit the Sim from the household screen.

The Nerd Stash gives a quick check. When the cheat works, all the fields in Create a Sim can be clicked, the name fields too.

Yes, for some changes. Snooty Sims gives the path. Open Manage Households, go to the Other Households tab, and pick the household. Open its profile, then edit in Create a Sim.

Snooty Sims also says that you cannot change the traits there. Use the cheat or the potion for traits.

A Steam reply says that you can change the voice of a Sim from the household manager with no cheat. We did not test this on our own.

Use full edit mode, or a birthday cake. Sims Community says that it is "easier and less buggy" to use cas.fulleditmode and age a Sim up in Create a Sim.

How do you age up with a cake?

1. Bake or buy a birthday cake.
2. Add candles to it.
3. Pick Make A Wish or Blow Out Candles.

Can you make a Sim younger?

The Potion of Youth costs 1,500 Satisfaction Points. Sims Community says that it only resets the Sim to the start of the current life stage. It does not move the Sim back a stage. Full edit mode can pick an other age stage. Sims Community also lists the cheat sims.age_down.

Enter full edit mode, open the Sim in Create a Sim, and type a new name. Gfinity says that you shift-click the Sim to open Create a Sim. It also says that you cannot rename a baby until the baby is a toddler.

Can you change traits with a cheat?

Yes. Gfinity lists traits.clear_traits, traits.equip_trait, and traits.remove_trait. Add the name of the trait after the last two. See traits.equip_trait for the full syntax.

How do you edit a Sim on PS4, PS5, or Xbox?

Open the cheat box with the four shoulder buttons, and type cas.fulleditmode. Then press A and B on Xbox, or X and O on PlayStation, on the Sim. Pick Modify in CAS.

Can you change a Sim's body without cheats?

Not in the guides that we read. The mirror lets you change outfits only. Use full edit mode for the face and the body.

Is there a mod to edit Sims?

Yes. A Steam reply names MC Command Center as an other way to edit a Sim. Read our MCCC guide to install it.

Can you change likes and dislikes?

Yes. EA said in its May 27, 2021 update notes that you can change likes and dislikes "at any time" when you return to Create a Sim.

Does a legacy challenge allow edits?

That depends on the rules that you follow. Read our Sims 4 legacy challenge guide before you edit a Sim in a challenge save.

• The exact syntax of the cheat. The guides use two versions.
• The full list of what Manage Households locks. One guide says only that traits are locked.

• The EA forum threads on bugs in full edit mode. They did not open for us.
