Sims 2 save file location

The Sims 2 saves each neighborhood as a folder, such as N001 for Pleasantview, in Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods. The Ultimate Collection uses The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection in place of The Sims 2, and the Legacy Collection uses The Sims 2 Legacy. To back up, copy the whole folder of the game.

The Sims 2 has no save slots. It saves each neighborhood in its own folder, in the Neighborhoods folder. On Windows, that is Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods for the original game. The name of the middle folder changes with the edition.

Sources do not agree on the Legacy Collection. EA Help says to open the Electronic Arts folder in Documents, then The Sims 2 Legacy. Players on Steam report the path in the table, under EA Games. Look in both. On a Mac, Finder can show the Containers folder by the name of the app, as in Aspyr's path above.

Each neighborhood has a folder with a code. Sims Community lists the ones of the base game and the packs:

• N001: Pleasantview
• N002: Strangetown
• N003: Veronaville
• G001: Riverblossom Hills
• F001: Desiderata Valley
• E001: Belladonna Cove

When you back up or move a neighborhood, copy its whole folder. Do not copy single files out of it.

1. Quit the game.
2. Copy the whole The Sims 2 folder from Documents\EA Games to another place, such as a USB drive.

Players on Steam say that the most important folders are Neighborhoods (your saved games), Downloads (custom content), and SavedSims. To move your game to a new computer, paste the same folders into the new The Sims 2 folder after you start the game there once.

EA Help says that old Sims 2 saves work in the Legacy Collection, but that the save paths changed. So to move an old neighborhood into the Legacy Collection, copy it from the old folder into the new one.

LifeSim is a free life sim that you play in the browser, on a real 3D map of Earth. In the LifeSim builder, open the import sheet and choose The Sims 2. Add a .zip of a neighborhood folder, such as N001, or a Sim from SavedSims, or a .sims2pack file. LifeSim lists the families, and you pick one. Its Sims become the people of your life in a real city.

Does The Sims 2 have save slots?

No. Each neighborhood is saved in its own folder in Neighborhoods.

Which Sims 2 neighborhood is N001?

N001 is Pleasantview, N002 is Strangetown, and N003 is Veronaville.

Do old Sims 2 saves work in the Legacy Collection?

Yes. EA Help says that old saves work, but the save paths changed, so copy them into the new folder.

Can I play my Sims 2 family in another game?

Yes. LifeSim reads a zipped neighborhood folder, and the family you pick lives on in a real city. Bring your Sims 2 family into LifeSim.
