How Gemology skill points scale across levels

You unlock level 1 with your first 100 skill points. Moving from level 1 to level 2 requires 1,440 more points, bringing your running total to 1,540 points. The early levels go by quickly compared to the back half of the skill.

The point cost grows much steeper around the middle of the track. Reaching level 5 takes 5,280 points from level 4, for a total of 12,580 points. Level 7 is a noticeable jump, asking for 10,140 points above level 6.

The final stretch takes the most effort. Level 9 asks for 17,100 points from level 8, and level 10 asks for 21,120 points from level 9. By the time you finish level 10, your Sim accumulates 81,580 total points.

Fastest ways to level up Gemology

Put your Sim in a Focused mood to multiply skill gains by 1.4, or Very Focused for a 1.6 multiplier. Avoid practicing while Angry or Sad, which drop your gain multiplier to 0.8. Very Angry and Very Sad cut gains to 0.6, and Enraged drops your multiplier to 0.4.

You can stack moodlets and traits with your emotion because multiple active boosts multiply together. The Strong Mental Affinity trait gives a 1.4 multiplier, while the Omega Brain Boost moodlet multiplies gains by 2. Moodlets like Crafty Memories, Dedication, and Perfected each give a 1.5 multiplier.

Creative Brilliance and Mental Brilliance also help by multiplying skill gains by 1.3. General skill boosts work on Gemology too. Snaggle Flustered gives a 4 multiplier, while Parental Guidance creates a 3 multiplier.

Unlocks, career uses, and the Gemology cheat

Reaching level 2 unlocks the Discuss Crystal Properties interaction. The game files do not list any careers that ask for Gemology for a promotion. Higher levels up to level 10 do not list additional gated interactions or recipes in this data.
