Rocket Science skill

Starting Rocket Science takes very little effort. You only need 100 points to reach level 1, and 1,440 more points to reach level 2. The early levels go by quickly as you work.

The point requirements grow much larger in the middle and late levels. Moving from level 6 to level 7 requires 10,140 points, which is a noticeable jump. Reaching level 10 takes 21,120 points from level 9, bringing your total to 81,580 points.

Your Sim's emotion changes how fast you learn. Being Focused multiplies your skill gain by 1.4, and being Very Focused multiplies it by 1.6. Avoid working while Angry, Sad, Very Angry, Very Sad, or Enraged, because these emotions slow your progress down to a 0.8, 0.6, or 0.4 multiplier.

Active moodlets and traits multiply together with your emotion. The Strong Mental Affinity trait gives a 1.4 multiplier, while moodlets like Among Geniuses and Omega Brain Boost give a 2 multiplier. General skill boosts like Snaggle Flustered multiply gains by 4, and Parental Guidance gives a 3 multiplier.

Higher levels unlock new rocket upgrades and social interactions. You can expand the fuel storage tank and point out constellations at level 3, or improve maneuvering thrusters and teach about Rocket Science at level 5. Levels 6, 7, 9, and 10 unlock the cargo bay, ion cannon defense system, landing computer, and wormhole generator.

The Astronaut career also asks for this skill in both the Space Ranger and Interstellar Smuggler branches. You need level 2 to earn a promotion from career level 8, and level 4 to advance from career level 9.

You can skip the work by using the cheat console in Live mode. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac, type testingcheats true, and enter stats.set_skill_level statistic_Skill_AdultMajor_RocketScience 10. You can replace 10 with any number from 1 to 10 to set your desired level.
