Painting skill

Each level of Painting asks for more skill points than the one before it. You only need 100 points to reach level 1, and another 1,440 points to reach level 2. The early levels go by quickly while you unlock basic interactions like Discuss Color Theory and Scrap Painting.

The point cost grows much larger in the middle and late levels. Going from level 4 to level 5 takes 5,280 points, which brings your running total to 12,580 points. Reaching level 7 asks for 10,140 points from level 6 alone.

The biggest jumps happen at the end of the skill track. You need 17,100 points to reach level 9, and 21,120 more points to reach level 10. A Sim needs 81,580 total skill points to finish the Painting skill.

Your Sim's current emotion changes how fast they earn Painting skill points. Being Very Inspired gives a 1.6 multiplier, while Inspired gives 1.4 and Sad gives 1.2. Stop practicing Painting when your Sim is mad, because anger slows down their progress.

Angry cuts your skill gain multiplier to 0.8, Very Angry drops it to 0.6, and Enraged lowers it to 0.4. You can stack positive moodlets with emotions, because active multipliers multiply together. The Artistic Endeavors moodlet triples your gain with a 3 multiplier, and Creative Spark gives a 2.5 multiplier.

Other Painting moodlets like Fluttering Bliss and Inspirational Flowers multiply gains by 2. Moodlets such as Creative Boost, Dedication, and Creative Juices Flowing give a 1.5 multiplier. General skill boosts also work here, including Snaggle Flustered with a 4 multiplier and Parental Guidance with a 3 multiplier.

Higher levels unlock new mural options and social interactions. You can Paint City Mural and Paint Nature Mural at level 3, and Paint Optical Illusion at level 5. Level 7 unlocks Paint Figure Mural, while level 10 lets you Declare Life's Finest Painting.

Two careers ask for this skill before they promote your Sim. The Painter career needs Painting from level 2 up to level 10 in the Master of the Real branch. The Arts Critic branch of the Critic career asks for Painting levels 2, 3, 4, and 6.

You can max out the skill right away in Live mode using the cheat console. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac to open the box. Type testingcheats true, then enter stats.set_skill_level statistic_Skill_AdultMajor_Painting 10.
